Buying advise? 2013 vs 40th Anniv 370z
Hi,
I am looking to buy a Z soon here in Canada and I am comparing between the two, I hope you can help me out with a few questions that I have and give me more insight so I can come up with an informed and better decision. I wanted to post/create threads in their respective sections, but I figured this will be easier. Thanks in advance! General details 40th anniv: Sticker Price: $36,888 Mileage: 16,000KM-ish Transmission: Manual 2013 Base + Sport Pack Sticker Price: $42,995 Mileage: 30KM-ish (says used, but it seems it is brand new) Transmission: Manual (I can post the links of the advertisements upon request) Facts and wishlist: Budget: $30-32K I am more inclined on cosmetic differences of the car I am more inclined on a higher selling value after 3-5 years of usage after my purchase Questions: 1. Care to give an estimate for each on the above for their invoice price? This way, I can determine if the price difference versus the car/specs/inclusive package differences is worth it. 2. This will be my first car, and I have read that 09 to some 11 models are affected by steering wheel lock issues. Is it safe to assume that the 40th anniv model is not immune to this issue? If they are affected, would you recommend such for a first time owner? 3. Are Z's imported here in Canada from the US? Or are they assembled here in Canada? 4. What about the trade in value of the Z after 3-5 years, I assume the 2013 model will be of higher value vs the 40th anniv? 5. Is Feb to Mar of the year a good time to buy one? Does prices change with respect to the season? 6. Let us assume that I would go for the 2013 Z, is it possible to get an invoice price with the budget I have? |

10's will have steering lock issue, look up on how to pull the fuse. All 370Z's are built in Japan, so they are imported directly from there. With the 40th, I would assume there is at least $5,000 in fluff, maybe more. It's used and there is more money in it. The 13' model would most likely have around $4k (guesstimate) to work with. The 13' will take a harder depreciation hit than the 10' model. Find a cold rainy night at the end of the month preferably. They will want to work the deal fast because they had a $hitty sale day, it's the end of the night, and cars don't sell as well in winter months.

TPYD - I noticed your location and I am fairly local. Is the 40th(or 40th's) you have been looking at the ones at German Star Motors? If so you may have some additional saving opportunity if you don't care about some options first I will answer your questions in order though........
1 - A Canadian 40th new was $48,498, A american 40th new was $38,860 A 2013 base+sport new in canada $46,800 2 - Search the forum the steering lock is not to be feared and easily fixed there is 3 options 3 - All 370Z are made in Japan and sent to either country, both countries have different requirements for the build. In short Canadian models have more standard - like a fog light is stock where as in USA it is an option, in Canada we also require a spare tire where as in the states some do not require you to have one.......I am sure theres more I could go on if you want. 4 - As Firehawk said you will get hit the hardest with the depreciation if you buy the 2013 as it hasn't been hit very hard yet, where the 2010 has already depreciated the fastest it ever will in the life of the car so you will regain from resale more on the 2010 IMO(not just 40th owner biased ) 5 - Again as Firehawk said end of the month is normally the best time to get a deal on a car 6 - I think the sticker price is to cheap but I could be wrong, online a base alone is $40,978 add sport @ $4000 and it is adding up plus taxes and other fees your getting up there quick. If your budget is $30-32K you will need to look used. Now back to the talk about the American 40th's in the GTA. If you go in with all the facts and know what you are talking about I am sure you can get a much better deal I think German Star Motors is just hoping to sell the cars to people who are uninformed on the differences and make a larger mark up because they brought up a bunch of used 40ths from the states .......IMO if your in Canada try and wait to find a used Canadian 40th they come fully load sport/touring/nav and you can get your choice of MT or AT if you really wanted an AT 40th where as the American 40th has no nav and only comes MT

Yes, I am looking at the Z's over there at German Star Motors for the 40th and Collins Nissan for the 2013. (But I won't be buying from GSM, I read too many bad reviews about that place.)
How about a guesstimate for the 40th on invoice? You said that the 40th has depreciated the fastest it could ever have, but I still do not know where exactly I can play around with in terms of invoice price in closing out the deal? This is something that I can definitely use before actually going to the dealer. For the timing, I intend to go this weekend - end of month for Feb as you guys advised. I was supposed to go yesterday, I felt unprepared that's why I didn't go. I AM VERY HAPPY I posted here in the forums before I went there! Cheers to y'all for this! |

invoice price is referring to the cost of it new, and a 40th can only be a 2010 so it will be at a used price sorry if that doesn't help

A lot of "unethical practice". That's what my lawyer says. Even though I saw bad reviews about them I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. Big mistake. Big f***ing mistake.
Unfortunately I can't divulge too much information for now. My advice is to steer clear of these people. On another note, don't you think the price is a little too high for that year/model? |

Ya I have read the reviews before to just I know I will not be going there that is for sure! I only know of them because everytime I looked up 40ths on autotrader in out area they were pretty much the only one sometimes to even have an add for one. I knew right away that they were obviously USA model 40ths and thought it was shady for them not to advertise them as that! A dealer in my area sells USA model cars and they let everyone know with nothing to hide or not tell you till you sign the dotted line. I like that about them and have had 2 friends use them
