After all considerations, the compartment behind the e-brake lever is where it should go, no screwing around with a cell phone while driving.

I have one from Pro Clip USA and love it. Super solid. It's basically just to plug it in for Android Auto though, it'd be too low to really use it. They have one for the A-pillar though if you're wanting to use it for nav.

Check out this thread. Idk what trim your Z is but if it's base with the 3 buttons in the center console that aren't being used you can turn it into a cell phone holder. JTM88 posts a blueprint that you can submit to an online website that does 3d printing and they will make it for you for like $20 or something like that. Have it on my Z and it works like a charm.

I usually throw it in the cup holder since I have an aux cord attached to it. I have a playlist and hit shuffle, I don't dare touch my phone while I drive this car, needs the drivers attention to the fullest.
