i was thinking of buying the coolant from a nissan dealership and taking it to the shop i go for oil changes and have them do it and hopefully its a simple thing to do, just like the oil? flush out the old stuff and top up with new? ill have to double check but i think its low.

Nissan coolant is extended life...if it's low in the reservoir-test it with a refractometer/coolant tester.
A 50/50 mixture should be -34*F
The higher the % of antifreeze, the lower the freeze point;but lessen's the cooling effectiveness.
Not sure your milage/but should be good for a minimum 5yrs./100k....also,if you top off w/water....use distilled water (bottled drinking water)

Bottled drinking water is not the same as distilled. Distilled is pure water; drinking water has minerals. But I agree with every thing else in your post - great advice.

Don't use bottled or tap water. Has to be specifically distilled.

Another thing is if you are at that coolant change time more than likely your shop should have the correct variant. Or as you said pick it up from the dealer and give it to your shop

Sorry I added drinking to the bottled distilled water.

(on the topic of what water to use) I don't worry about it... just use premixed coolant.

My shop saw it was a bit low and topped it up for me a year ago when I did my oil.

Didn't notice a difference lol Aslong as you're not running extra hot your coolant still good. Should be cheaper to top it off than to have it redone especially at 30k km.

Disclosure I'm at 50k on a 2012. (Or was it 40k..lol)

I find myself topping my coolant off once a year or so. At 6 years and almost 90K miles, I'm still running the original fluid without issue.

thanks guys on the info. So maybe i should just top it off then? i believe it said our coolant capacity is 8.3 litres or something? so should i buy it from our nissan dealership?

AND how come some people redo the whole coolant rather than just topping it off? whats the difference. i need to do this before driving it this spring, im really cheesed my shop didnt notice it
