ongoing squeeling brake issue, help !!!!
my car has about 30,000 kms, 2012, base model. it squeels on and off at a stop near lights and stop signs and squeels alot on the highway, i tried that method, i forgot what it was called, but it didnt work. 1 shop checked it out and just suggested i replace pads AND rotors, but i had a ton of pad left they said, they cleaned out the groove, noise went away for a week and came back.
called nissan just now and they quoted front pads $112.15, rears $111.56. rotors front $124.81 EACH, rears $132.95 each, and those prices are before tax. any suggestions on what to do? i dont want to change the rotors if i dont have to, but i also dont want to pay twice for labor, but it shouldnt really be twice for labor anyway since it would less time if it was pads alone and then rotors later if i the sound was still there. i also want cross drilled and slotted, especially if i have to replace the rotors, but not sure which brand and i dont want to spend a whole lot if i dont have to. looking for shop or places in the GTA/toronto |

My brakes started squealing recently. I've lubed them, changed them, bed them and no real change
So I've made the decision to just go with racing pads next time. If they're going to squeal, it might as well be for good reason

Sand them down, wipe with IPA, Acetone, or laquer thinner. Both sides, even pattern, rotate rotor while sanding until you get the whole thing. Use 220 grit. Just enough to break the glaze off of them, should be about 2-3 minutes of work per side. Exact angle does not matter, just make sure it's at least 45 degrees off of the pattern the brakes made and fairly even all the way around.
When you change pads, I'm a fan of the XP8s. I left the stock rubber shim between the SST shim and the pad, w. lube in mine. On my second set and they almost never squeal.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I was referring to pads only, not rotors, when I said "changed". My original OEM rear rotors and pads started squealing around 60K miles. I lubed them up good with no change. Around 70K miles I changed the pads out for Centric Posi-Quiet pads, lubed them, and bed them. They continued to squeal as though I hadn't done anything at all. At 80K miles now and same squeal. The rotor life is fine. Eventually I'm going to buy the Z1 2-piece rear rotors and some Carbotech XP pads when the rotors need replacement or funds become available.

I have the sport/touring model and replaced my pads/rotors last year when I started getting vibration while braking and only got worst.
never had squeak though... that's really odd. |

FYI, base rotors are like $40 apiece from local auto parts store. No need to overpay Nissan. Or go with Z1's upgrade package

Go to your local auto parts store and ask them to price blank rotors for your base brakes. I bet they $50-60 CA
