I have seen a few people claim they got theirs off without completely trashing it although I am not sure I believe them. Lol

Mine looked even worse than yours by the time I got it off.

Mine did come off without a hitch or any much effort whatsoever. I did use a strap wrench tho but I just gave it a good twist and came right off.
And yes, after hearing all the horror stories similar to OP's I thought I was gonna shred my knob to pieces.

Guess you got lucky and there wasn't a ridiculous amount of Loctite on it.

That PITA removal is keeping me from adding a new shift knob. As soon a sI have more time, I will attempt to remove the OEM shift knob. Still got to pick up a new aftermarket shift knob. Where did you buy that one epan? It looks really nice.

I replaced the forklift shifter with the OE shift knob at work LOL
The forklift drivers said they are more comfy to shifting gears

My leather came off the knob but was unscathed, a little glue could probably put it back.

But I agree that I do not see how you could get it off without any damage unless you are very lucky.
