Help identifying problem
Hello everyone, I recently did a little spin in my z then came to a rest (hella sweet parallel park) against a concrete curb with my driver side rear wheel. I broke the wheel, broke one control arm and bent another. After I found a replacement wheel and control arms it was all put back together and the rear alignment is still off by about .5" (don't know exact alignment specs the wheel just isn't sitting straight, but is drivable.) The collision guy said that there must be another part that is slightly bent but under a visual inspection it is unclear which one. His solution was to buy new parts one by one until the bent part is found. Does anyone have any idea which suspension part would be a plausible culprit? Any help is greatly appreciated. As it stands now I think I am going to order a new hub and see if that fixes things.

The collision guy didn't say but the problem with it before fixing the other parts was the wheel would travel forward and backward inside the wheel well. I am going to see exactly what he is talking about in a day or two. It cant be that bad if it is still drivable but at the same time he wanted to replace the whole suspension assembly on the drivers side to fix it. I am trying to see if there is another cheap part I can swap out that could fix it. Sorry if this isn't much help.

I went and looked at it and the wheel is toed out about .5 inches. So based upon that and that the control arms already have been replaced what do you guys think is responsible.

You have the dumbest fücking repair shop...
Go to a new one with a mechanic who has a brain and can see better than Ray Charles

I agree with depointfive0, your guy is high on crack to tell you to buy individual parts to solve the problem. IN your INSURANCE CLAIM, you should have ALL of the mentioned parts replaced and an alignment done with you present to see the specs within your desired tolerance. Everytime I get an alignment done I sit there and watch so that I know they aren't screwing me over on this!

Update:
I took the car home from the shop, scary drive with the alignment the way it was. I tore into the suspension pulling parts off to see if there was anything broken that they missed to keep from buying an all new assembly. While doing this I noticed that my lower control arm/spring seat was cracked, buckled, and bowed effectively making the part shorter which is what was pushing the tow out so bad. I sourced a replacement for 75 bucks on ebay and put it in today. I still need an alignment but the wheel is sitting straight and I think that was the entire problem. In the mechanics defense you would have had to compare the bent arm with a straight one to even see a difference (other than a hairline Crack down the spring seat). When the broken one was mounted on the car it looked fine but once removed it was clearly off. It's amazing what a little diy can do for you. |
