Swift springs intall quote.
So i just got some swifts. And I'm overseas at the moment so i need someone stateside to do the install. I emailed one of the shops near my house and they sent me this :
Hey Bernard, to install this springs it will take about 7-8 hours plus an alignment, our labor rate is $105 an hour and the alignment will be around $140. We do have a military labor rate we would charge you 85 an hour plus $140 for the alignment. Thank you for your services and have a nice holiday. Now i know that these springs or any springs in this case do not take 7-8 hours to install. The rear springs are almost effortless and the front are just a bit harder. What do you guys think? I replied back to them saying i just want the install because I'm going to wait a couple hundred miles after the install for an alignment. Any one can recommend a shop around central new jersey or within 50-60 miles away? Or should i just give in and have it done for roughly $700. Any input would help me out. Thanks and happy holidays! |

Wow! By myself with hand tools taking my time maybe 4-5hrs. You're not going to beat $85 an hour though but I doubt they'll lower the time frame. Have a friend do it for $100 or something.

Do shops always milk you of your money for stuff like this?? I know damn sure 7-8 hours for a spring install is way off. Maybe if there are tigers and wasps surrounding the car it would. and this shop is a well known shop in the area, doing a lot of work on high end cars, lifting trucks and ect. I might just wait till i get back and do it by hand. Cant be to hard can it?

Wow. What a game he's playing on you. He's willing to do it for less labor rate but more hours than it takes. So he basically is getting the same money regardless. I've seen this before. I could do the job in three hours. Course I have a lift. Then about $130 for alignment. Roughly.

this. I was quoted 225 to install mine, i ended up doing them myself and had I had the proper tools up front 3-4 hours to do car 1 wheel at a time.
the rear is 15 minutes total. the driver side front came off easy, the passenger side, thats another story LOL

That guy is ripping you off. It does not take 8 hours to even do a header swap on this car.
Go to RTTuning in Lansdale, PA. R/T Tuning – Dyno Tuning & Engine Performance Specialists Talk to Eric the service manager. Great guy! Great shop! Just had my coils swapped there, and they helped me through a small issue and got me on my way. Their alignment/suspension installer is a specialist in Suspension work, that's all he does. And he's good at what he does.

Thanks for the feedback guys, i knew i was being ripped off. I might go check out RT tuning while I'm back home. But in the mean time, let me go set up an appointment for a "2008 370z" at the shop that is asking me for my arm and my leg.

I had four shops give me a similar quote in Wa. What ever program they use to estimate the work is 7.5-8.5 hours labor for the springs.
Efff that! I was then recommended to another shop. They charged me $200 and it was done in 3 hours. These were swifts with SPC rear camber arms and toe bolts.

Guess they charge book work. If I owned a shop it would be by the job for simpler things where there's no mishap possiable. Unlike engine buildng. Why curve by the hour when every spring job is the same?

Man I wish I made $105/hr. $140 for alignment!? Most I ever paid is $60 (hooked up), full alignment, ground level lift, after I installed complete suspension which took 5hrs, with a lunch break.lol Sad to see shops screw people over like that, then wonder why they have no business.
