Akebono Caliper Issue

This is the left rear caliper where the banjo bolt goes into, half the threads are gone.

Drill/tap/larger banjo bolt? Can you helicoil something like that?

Helicoil is an option we have been looking at but do not know anyone with the tools for it.

I thought about drilling/tapping it to a larger size but have concerns on finding a proper banjo bolt to fit the new size. No one was really being helpful when I was just trying to find the size/thread of the OEM banjo bolt size so I could source it locally when we ran into an issue.

Might have to take that one by a machine shop. I don't know if I'd try to DIY a fix like that on brakes.

If Jason's got it, then it'll get taken care of.

redrill for 7/16-20 and also drill the banjo bolt hole out. I did that for a set of Z06 calipers I had on my corvette and it worked fine.
There is also a company called time-sert that is similar to a helicoil, but I think they are a higher quality fix. I just repaired a set of Camaro calipers mounting bolt holes with their product.

If you do need a new caliper, no charge on the recoating though. With me, you pay for a service once, no matter why it doesn't work out, I replace for free.

Use a different type of tap. Most taps have a tip on the end that allows for gradual cutting of the threads (Taper). You may need to get a bottoming tap or plug tap. That will allow for cutting of threads in shallow holes.
