Z1 Motorsports Track BBK 380mm F & R

Anyone running this cheaper big brake upgrade and put it too the test on track? Would be interested to hear your thoughts.

FYI, stock akebonos and track pads will be fine on track for most people tracking their Z.

But the cheaper Z1 BBK is very very similar to GTR calipers/rotors so you may have better luck finding reviews of people who have done the GTR brake swap.

This kit is just the normal Akebono calipers, but with a Z1 logo:

The competition package looks interesting

Built in temp monitor and a sort of finned heat sink shape to the calipers - i've never seen that before, wonder where Z1 got that from

The temp indicator is just a sticker, widely available. But it is nice to have it there already. Wonder if the color indication reverse back or not.

Track kit = GTR Brembo copy (I think...Z1 did say it's "R35 inspired")

Comp kit = per Z1 website..."Designed, engineered, and manufactured in South Africa by the experts at Powerbrake"

https://powerbrake.us/

A chassis and suspension shop I've used (Vorshlag) has been using PowerBrake BBK on their shop race cars since 2017. PB also has/had a relationship with Nismo for Dakar rally.

On a related news...the 2024 Nismo Z has 15 in rotors in front with new Akebono calipers. I had assumed it was the R35 GTR calipers all along, interesting that Nissan had Akebono work up a new setup instead.
Optimiser likes this.

That Powerbrake stuff looks top notch so the Z1 competition BBK must be no different since it’s designed/manufactured by them.

i am refering to the z1 GTR brembo copies- wondering if these are good quality, they are a fair bit cheaper than the powerbrake motorsport kit. Being in australia it would be handy to be able to get pads local with the gtr pad size. conversion rate is horrendous for us atm @ 62c to the AUD

For track use, if I for some reason (like cost....cost is a validreason) were going against the AP Racing calipers and had to choose a Z1 kit, I'd at least spend the extra for their competition kit. Their track kit looks heavy, lower vane count, and still have piston boots and what look like aluminum pistons. To me, more street kit than track kit.

The Z1 competition setup has higher vane count rotors and steel pistons and should hold up to heat much better. It's too bad pad changes require tacking the caliper off compared to the easy swaps with the Akebonos and the CP9668 calipers, and I don't think the pads are as fat as CP9668's support (25mm).

That's all theory though, because before I buy any BBK, I need to know what replacement rotor ring availability is, and replacement cost. I don't see any listings yet and the lack of rotor availability has caused some BBKs to become near worthless in the past (Stillen/AP Racing Radical kits for example, with unobtainable replacement rings)
Pad shape is the other thing that I'd need to figure out. The GTR clones should be fine, but what do the competition calipers use? Is that shape commonly supported?
In contrast AP's 372x34mm rings are super easy, if expensive, to source, and their CP9668/9660 pad shape is supported by just about every manufacturer.
