After going for a drive I had my wife turn the wheel while I tried to hear where the sound was coming from. It seemed to be equally loud from both sides of the car by the wheel well. I'm thinking the steering rack is gone but I don't know what components are in there that would cause the sound if worn. I would think there would be some bushings that the rack would follow through but I haven't been able to find a breakdown of the rack itself. Anyone come across this popping noise and found the steering rack was at fault?
Plus it only makes this sound when the wheels are on the ground with the weight of the car. When jacked up the noise is not present. |
