Suspension issues

Hey, I have a 15’ 370Z Nismo with an aggressive static drop on ARK Lowering Springs, after that I started going through rear tires like crazy so I purchased a suspension kit from Z1, the shop I took it to couldn’t install the front pkg cause they wouldn’t fit, so they opted to only install the rear kit, I contacted Z1 and they sent me the replacement ball joint kit but it ended up being the same size, meanwhile I’ve already had to go back to the shop cause the rear kit keeps loosening up, the shop is telling me I should have gone with Megan Racing, this is driving me crazy. I’m looking for any advice on what I should do, thanks in advance.

You should have gone SPL parts
Megan is ebay crap

Throw your springs away
Return all Z1 parts which have failed in the past. You should have searched, the Z1 issue has been documented

Purchase quality coilovers and SPL components

Never worry again and enjoy full, bulletproof adjustability and unlimited wheel fitment range

I had the exact problem you had with eating rear tires. I'm talking BADLY. I went through several pairs in a year, it was insane. I finally bought the SPC rear camber kit from B2. Here is what I got:

1 x SPC Rear camber kit w/Toe bolt 370Z (72260) = $165.00

Totally solved my problem. Allowed me to get my camber back into spec and I don't eat tires anymore. Prior to that, with the lowering springs, the Nissan dealer I went to for alignment gave me a printout, my rear camber was over 3 degrees, and they said they couldn't get it any better. This was due to the lowering springs, from my understanding. Swift Spec-R in my case.

Now I've got coilovers on the way.

I think spl stuff is a little overkill for a street driven car. I would also avoid spherical bushing on a street driven car as the joints can get damaged prematurely depending on the conditions you drive in. Spherical bushing are prone to rattle and make more noise than most are ok with during street driving conditions.

I would recommend sticking with rubber or urethane bushings as it will keep the nvh closer to stock. As far as what you need, try the spc kits front and rear. The front kit offers tons of clearance for wider wheels and tires which may be why you z1 front arms dont fit.

But I have had zero issues with speherical joints being damaged from street use

There are factory cars that come with them stock, it's not some crazy fragile technology

The QUALITY of the ballpoint matters, and SPL's have held up



Lastly, did you not do an alignment when you installed the springs! You need to check whenever you change ride height

If your shop is recommending Megan racing you need a new shop

Do you know how many people run SPL on this forum? Almost everybody. Op needs to get the SPL rear camber arms and eccentric lock out kit. for the front he needs to get the SPL FUCA's. There is a reason all of us run the SPL parts. They flat out work.

My post was not meant to call into question the quality of spl parts. They are the highest quality in so far as design and usability. I would run them if they were legal for competition. I don't know how to make that any more clear.

However, there are some drawbacks to running unsealed spherical joint control arms on a street driven car. I wanted to make sure the op is aware of that and I offered an alternative.

I have yet to hear a single example of SPL parts failing, across the Z snd s chassis community

While in THEORY some balljoint may fail, in practical application of these specific parts for this car...you’re outta pocket

I have put over 60k miles on my SPL parts. I also have to drive 1/4 mile on a dirt road to get to my house. The spherical bearings are a non issue. Buy with confidence.

The beauty of owning this chassis is that we have many different options available to suit many needs.

SPL makes good stuff, but there are other options for a reason.

I've have the full SPL catalog on my Z. Have over 15,000 miles on the front suspension. No issues there. In the rear. When I installed the SPL sub-frame bushings. That's when I picked up some increased noise from the rear. Mostly from the diff.

From over the years of being on this forum. I have yet see anyone have issues with the SPL parts. Lot of issues with other makers of suspension parts tho.
