Default Brake pad pin locking clip missing!

So the other day I went to inspect the brake pads, when I discovered that the brake pad sliding pins had started to come loose on one caliper.
One of the pins had slided out of the hole completely, and the other was on it's way out.
Turns out that the locking clips were missing

I don't get how this could happen, I bought it used and haven't changed pads. I've had it in 3 times for service, and the first service they inspected the brakes and told me all was good, and the last service they changed brake fluid.
I'm guessing they had the pads removed and forgot to put the clips back, I can't imagine them just breaking. But why would they remove them for a fluid change? Maybe they removed them to check wear?

Anyways, I'm thinking of buying new pads, specifically EBC Redstuff.
I read somewhere that the locking clips comes with new pads sometimes, does anyone know if this is the case?

It is for the sport brakes if it makes a difference. Thanks!

Nope ... you will need to find replacement R-clips (they are shaped a bit like a capital R)

Nissan will charge you an arm and a leg (at least they do here). About 10bux a clip.

I have a stock that I collected from the U-Pick wrecking yard .......... or your could try your friendly local brake service joint who might be less rapacious that a dealer

Well that's a bummer.

Guess I'll look around some, that's damn expensive for a couple clips.

Thanks for your reply!

Check an auto parts store for something close. The cotter pin is just there to hold in the long pin. Doesn't have to be fancy (like Nissan's MUST be (not)).

You could safety wire the pins if you want to.

Just weld them!!!!

Or as bgtv8 said, check a u-pick/pick and pull yard, or similar.
Could even post a WTB thread in the for sale section.

Does anyone know what size they are?

Went to a local store, but the smallest they had was 2mm, which looked too big to fit.

Let us know if you find a cheaper alternative.

I've mangled a few of these over the years, could use a replacement or two.

The clip is referred to as a "hairpin cotter pin". You can find them on Mcmaster.com. I'd personally go with stainless steel option if I was buying them.
