Default Rear Tower bar, functional?

Hi,

So I have been googling for the past hour or so to see if this thing is actually functional. Regular Car Review was the only person I've ever heard say it wasn't. I always thought it was and saw a Nissan video once comparing the rigidity of the 370 to the 350 and I thought it was shown to be functional. Either way, its hard info to find.

Is it functional?

Can it be made functional?

If you change it to a titanium bar is it an improvement?

What do they guys with that extra bat from the shock port think of the add on?

If you're wondering why I'm asking or why I care, lets just say for educational purposes.
