Hello everyone I'm not sure if I should upgrade my brakes or not. It seems by peddle is starting to fill a little squishy, and when I try to go

Default This may be a very dumb question; Brakes

Hello everyone I'm not sure if I should upgrade my brakes or not. It seems by peddle is starting to fill a little squishy, and when I try to go for a hard stop the car kinds jerks a bit. Is that traction control? Brake fade? shitty tire grip? Or a combination of all 3? Ive checked my tread and it looks good on the tires. So I'm thinking about upgrade my pads and adding the Z1 brake lines. Sound about right?

Yep, the question is

"Squishy" pedal might be due to air in the system. Explain this "jerking" when you go for a hard stop. Was ABS engaged? What kind of surface?

Upgrading your pads to one with a higher operating temperature wouldn't help much in your case. A set of stainless steel-braided brake lines would improve pedal feel but they would not make your car stop faster.

Smooth pavement, ABS not engaged. Its like a stutter to get grip on a hard stop if that makes sense. What would better help stopping power?

First and foremost flush and bleed the brakes with a high quality brake fluid. This will most likely get rid of the "squishy" feel. If you want to get different pads after that it's up to you.

The soft pedal is probably air in the lines as others have suggested. But it could be worn or loose linkage.

The stutter may be uneven deposits on the rotors. Bedding will usually fix that.

Motul RBF600 brake fluid FTW. And SS brake lines are always good. Get the Z1 non-premium lines even if you have the sport brakes. They get rid of those stupid banjo bolts, which are just another potential leak point.

If the shuddering is while braking hard at speed it is likely uneven pad deposits on the rotors (also commonly and incorrectly referred to as "warped rotors"). If this is, in fact, the culprit then you can either replace them or have a shop "turn" the rotors. Basically they scrape the rotor to even the face - note that bad braking habits will cause the problem to return. Avoid sitting on the brakes after a hard braking session; put the car in N once you come to a stop and stay off the brake pedal if safe to do so.

The "jerking" is likely caused by uneven rotor surfaces; machining or replacement might be needed. Do a few hard braking when it's safe to do so, engage the ABS when possible. If you had no problem engaging ABS at any temperature, then the next one is tires. Stickier tires would help shorten stopping distances.

Don't engage ABS, as it pulses the brakes causing additional uneven depositing. Brake as hard as possible without engaging ABS. A few back to back runs of 60 mph down to 10 mph (do not come to a complete stop) usually will do the trick.

ull be putting new brake fluid in when you replace the lines, so would be killing 2 birds with one stone.

honestly speaking, those brake lines are kinda gimmicky.. more like in your head unless you're carving canyons or tracking the car. brake fluid drain/fill alone would make a lot of that squishy go away. also check ur tires and psi.
