Should i just use 12" spacers? A shop told me to trash that box and have him make a new one... what do you guys think!?

If your happy with the box go with the space. Spacers aren't uncommon but not ideal.

New box = $150+

Spacer = $25

More importantly, check the internal volume of the box, and make sure it is right for your sub. Then go from there.

I'm confused. Zen is showing a depth on their website of 10", and pioneer is showing a depth of 7.5" should be plenty of room.
You should have a spec sheet that came with your sub. It shows a recommended volume of .5 to 1 cu.ft. Subwoofers are designed to play at their peak in boxes of a specific size. You cant just throw any old sub in any old box and expect the world from it. Zen is showing a total volume of 1.18 cuft, but is adjustable by request. Did you get the enclosure used??? I'm thinking that if so, the previous owner had the volume decreased, and zen made the depth of the box smaller to accomodate.
This is speculation, of course, but my best guess for the size discrepancy.
