Default Kenwood Excelon DNN990HD Corner Sub Hertz Amp and Speakers Install

Just wanted to pass along some pictures from my recent install. I had a local shop near me do the installation and create the corner sub box The following were installed:

-Kenwood Excelon DNN990HD Head Unit
-Hertz HSK165 6.5" speakers
-Hertz HDP5 5-channel amplifier
-JL 10W3V3-2 sub in a corner box
-CMOS 210 Rear View Camera

I absolutely love the Kenwood head unit. Has lots of features which really you need to be careful about having while you are driving...haha. The Garmin navigation on the Kenwood unit is great and is a major upgrade from my Eclipse navigation I have on my Armada. Within the navigation it has various apps such as finding gas prices, movie times, pictures from traffic cameras and dynamic parking (find spots to park nearby). The navigation itself is very bright and colorful and provides great animations for when you need to make a turn such as an exact picture of what the ramp sign looks like or even if there is traffic on the route that you have set it will notify you and allow you to make changes to the route. The iPod interface is great as far as being able to search for playlists, artists and songs and providing the order of the songs that are to be played (different from my last head unit) so that you can skip to the next song but scrolling the list opposed to just clicking next and not knowing what will then be played until the song starts+. Besides the iPod cable there is a USB cable that you can take a memory stick and plug in to access media files. Internet radio such as Aupeo, iheartradio and Pandora can be used which is nice. For Aupeo and iheartradio you need to have a mobile hotspot set-up whereas with Pandora you hook your phone into the iPod cable and it accesses Pandora through the phone. Also you can access youtube videos, web browser, weather and set RSS feeds from such sites as ESPN, MTV and CNN which will update as events occur. You can also access Facebook, Twitter and your email which for me is gmail and have the head unit read the updates over the speakers. For these you need the mobile hotspot so that you can get the updates. Using the bluetooth for the phone to make calls is nice since it uploads your phone book from your phone. Very easy to navigate and make calls. There is still quite a bit that I need to figure out with this head unit. The owners manual is huge. It has way more than one probably needs but I love having all of those options.

The local shop did a great job in putting together the corner sub box. They were able to put the box together and install all the other required hardware for only $350 which was a great deal. I've always loved JL subs and this one sounds great in the car. They also installed a bass knob so that I can easily adjust the level of the sub depending on what I am listening to. I like doing that instead of changing the levels through the head unit. After I listen to it for awhile I will see if there needs to be any changes to the amplifier.

It's definitely amazing the change in sound quality when switching out the stock speakers to after market speakers. I knew there would be but its just amazing the level of difference. I had read quite a bit about the Hertz HSK165's and they have not disappointed. They sound very clear, have some nice highs and I can really see why not having rear speakers is fine in the Z. With having the sub and these speakers I definitely do not need rear speakers. They placed the amp directly behind the seat so that it is out of sight when the seat is all the way back. The amp provides the amount of power that I wanted with my system so I have been very happy with it so far.

Before I had all of this installed it was already difficult to leave my car since I love driving my Z but now with all of the audio equipment and the features that I have it has made it even worse. Really it starts with that head unit and all the sources of media that is available to you to listen to.

I have the same amp...good clean power!

I had a Audison bitTen signal processor which greatlyimprove the tone of the speakers.

Exactly! I've been very pleased with the amp so far. Are you running it as a 3 channel or a 5 channel? I am running it as a 3 channel as I do not have rear speakers. The ratings running it as a 3 channel is 200x2 and 550x1 although I had to tone the amp down a bit based on the RMS ratings of my speakers.
