New headunit, newbie question
Guys, I know nothing about stereo and headunit on cars, I haven't upgraded one in 10 years. Bare with me, I have a couple questions.
I basically want bluetooth phone/stream on my base car. After driving my Lexus, it gets annoying to have to remove the phone from my pocket and hook it up through AUX every time. I figure if I am going to spend the money, might as well get a double din to get the DVD feature and possibly navigation. Here are my questions #1 Is NAV on the modern head unit worth it? #2 Do any of them have HDMI input for video? #3 Since the car is so loud, can the bluetooth mic muffle enough noise to make the upgrade worth it? #4 Do i need an amp? #5 Anyway to keep steering control? #6 Do they have Android system built into them? |

Funny you should ask...I just bought a Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS DVD H/U, Alpine PDX-V9 5-channel amp, Alpine SWR-T10 thin subwoofer (all from Amazon/free shipping and no taxes), and I had some old ID 6.5 comps laying around. Will be getting it all installed Tuesday with 36 sqft of sound deadener.
1) It's just under $400 on Amazon 2) Not sure on HDMI 3) When the call comes though the music stops and the Bluetooth takes over the call. It's worth it. 4) Only if you want loud music. 5) Yes.....A $20 device 6) For the most part Last edited by Infidel; 04-05-2013 at 11:30 PM. |

#2 I think one of sony's newest models might have it but other than that no. I do not see where it would be worth it either way. #3 Pioneer mic's seem to be worse on picking up echo from the speakers and noise compared to others. #4 Depends on the speakers you want to run. #5 Yes metra axxess all day #6 There are a few android based head units and most of the newer models will control android just fine. Just make sure to check compatibility with your phone. I know app radio 2 will not work with the s3 right now.

I have decided to go with a mid range pioneer unit (4500) as it is about $350, it comes with the 7" screen that can tile rather than the 6.1" on the lower unit. Other than the head unit, would I need a dash kit (metra i assume?), wiring harness adapter, antenna adapter and steering wheel control adapter I assume?
Thanks I went with Pioneer because it seems to have the appradio feature over other radio of the same price. My second choice is the Kenwood 7xx series Last edited by cossie1600; 04-07-2013 at 11:35 PM. |
