Default Clarion 702

Hey guys I installed a Clarion 702... i like the head unit and the sound is great, just one problem - the fit is not right... it sticks out a bit and it has one of those lower lips that jets out. I'm ok with the lip but any ideas about the fit? It came with a two trims but they are both too big. I guess I can just live with it, but would like for it to look a little bit more OEM if possible.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Looks like it's missing a trim ring. Was nothing included like that?

No it came with a small trim - but its too big for that opening. I can try to force it in, but wanted to see if anyone had any ideas as to how i can pull the HU back further into the dash? I'll think about it if not, I'll just finish up the job this weekend and live with it, not a big deal... I'm just happy for the nav and blutooth features... but i think the OEM looked cleaner.

Some brands/models stick out more than others. A aftermarket dash kit will help with the opening gap but not how far out it is. You can always try creating new holes in your metal bracket to let it it further back.

Update - So I ended up really not liking the look of this head unit.... loved the interface and everything but it just looked like someone just threw it in there with no trim or anything, kinda took away from the mint / oem look of it that i prefer. I ended up uninstalling everything and making everything factory again. The sound was awesome, and I miss it, so might considering getting an amp with speaker wire inputs later on. IMO - If you like the factory / well fit look, dont get this unit, it sticks way out as seen in the pictures and the trims dont fit it. Also, not a huge fan of the touch screen only options, most of the commands were at the bottom of the screen near the volume sensor and it was frustrating that every time i went to hit a command i'd also touch the volume button, but maybe thats just me vs. touch screens. Overall a great HU for the money, includes easy to use GPS and other features.

There are PLENTY of choices out there buddy, you do not need to throw the entire idea of an aftermarket head unit out the window. Kenwood I recommend looking into.

Fixed.
Why trash the clarion due to some minor install miscues that are more than likely operator error??? Get yourself a dash kit, take a deep breath, and take your time re-installing. You can Do this!

I'm actually looking for another head unit. The unit just wasn't a good fit for my personal preference. I didn't like that the bottom lip jetted out - it was almost in line with where the temp control knobs are, it didn't look right to me. Some people may not have cared, but I mean its my weekend car and I didn't want to settle. Pretty sure I installed everything right, its hard to screw up the placement of 4 screws to the factory mount.

I left the door speaker wires and the back up camera wires ran and hidden and the re-install should only take a few hours, so nothing crazy... its a quick project.

And ya - the touch screen thing IS user error - but to be honest - I'm impatient and don't like picky annoying touch screen controls in the car, but that's just me... I think it just boils down to personal preference.

I tried the face plates that came with the unit and they didn't fit - but I did not try replacing the entire face plate with something like this... (http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/50-3306)

I like the look of the CX501 - but was looking for something that I can hook the back up camera to as well

CX501 - (Another Clarion CX501 Installed)

What did you wind up doing?

I to like the oem look and not a big fan of the touch screen. It's a sports car and I like to keep it simple, but the stock sound is weak.

I have the NX702 in my 370z. It fits perfectly with my trim ring. Also it looks like your NX702 might have been slightly at an angle, there is an angle setting in the settings tab that allows you to select the angle it sits at normally, from 0 to +6 (which is absurd) Mine lives right around +1 or +2, with just a little angle so I can nicely look down on it.

Sorry that it didn't work out for you tho!
