Make you sound system sound better? Dynamatt the doors

I did (dynamatt) both doors this weekend, and boy does it help wake up the stock speakers and reduce cabin road noise overall. Its super easy to do, and you can do both doors in about two hours...from door panel removal, place the dynamatt in, and place panels back on. Really helps to cut down on the road noise too. I have done door my trunk and doors now, and it makes the Nismo much quieter inside.

How much is needed to do the doors and trunk? I read somewhere it adds a lot of weight. Is this true?

Yes, it adds weight. The whole point behind Dynamat is to add mass to whatever panel you affix it to in hopes of keeping it from vibrating, which causes noise. It does have secondary characteristics of insulting sound and heat, but it's not engineered for that specific purpose.

Its not that heavy, It takes one sheet per door if your careful on the cuts. If you like I can pop the panels off and take pics. They come off really easy with a taped up butter knife, 10 mm socket, and fingers. Dynamatt is designed to absorb sound/noise and turn that into thermal energy. Its not about adding mass, for that you could add lead sheets. It does add mass, but that's not how it works. Their website explains it better than I can.

It is most definitely about adding mass to reduce vibrations, or resonant frequencies.
Dynamat has some BS on their website about it turning vibrations into "Silent Energy"
What they mean to say, is that it adds mass.

Nevertheless, the amount of weight you are adding is peanuts compared to all the benefits you get from it. I removed the entire interior from the Z, and did matting from front to back, some areas 3 layers.... What a difference.

tap on a metal piece. does it vibrate? does it make a tinny noise? put some dynamat on it.

i also suggest you get a roller to really apply it well.

Dynamat will help yes and agree with the OP.

However if you are going through all that trouble to put dynamat, fat mat, raw mat, or any other kind of sound dampening material in your doors. I would upgrade the speakers while I am there. I hate removing panels multiple times.

I have removed the door panels several times to the point where I can remove them/reinstall them in less than 1/2 hour! I installed the sould deadening prior to upgrading my speakers. I notice an little improvement to the door speaker sound (i.e. louder mid-bass). My experience is that sound deadening material is a must when upgrading the door speakers.

Tip: While your at it, I found adding Dynamat or equivalent to the back side of the door panels along with sound deadening on the inside of the door (i.e. back side of the outside door skin) behind the door speakers helps to improve the speaker's sound.
