Default Stock Bose/Nav+new sub/amp

This may be already answered in one of the long threads about the audio with the stock unit, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I'm wanting to add one sub and an amp to my stock bose/nav...and I'm trying to figure out what all I will need. Of course, the box, sub, amp, and wire kit. All I will need for this to work is an MTX Req-5, correct? Another question I have is will I need to have an amp to run my speakers?...I don't want to add a sub to my car that will blow my speakers...so what would my best setup be?

you can get by with just a ReQ, if you just want to add a sub.

As said if you just want a sub get the regular re-q IF you think you are going to upgrade your speakers later which you will need to upgrade your amp to do so. Just get the re-q5 ahead of time.

I really don't want to replace the stock bose speakers...so is there a certain amp I will need to get to run the sub (4 channel/5 channel, mono, etc) and be able to keep all speakers?

No, bose speakers are a strange ohms rating and have a crossover built into the bose amp. So the amp has over 4 channels of output one for each speaker/tweeter.

You CAN upgrade the sub with a new amp and sub and run the bose speakers with the bose amp. However your not going to be able to run the bose speakers off a new amp.

What is the rated impedance of the speakers?

I think 2 ohms for the woofers and like 6 ohms for the tweeters.

So if I do run a new sub and amp and keep the bose amp running on the speakers, will the bose speakers be able to handle the new sub and amp?

What exactly do you mean handle the new sub and amp? The sub if going to add new lows you have not heard. The bose speakers will sound exactly how they sound now. A lot of people start with a sub than add on speakers and amp later because they feel the mids and highs are than lacking.

I think what I'm trying to get at is, will adding a new sub and amp put alot of pressure on the bose speakers? (I don't want to blow my speakers in other words).

Sorry to revive this thread but I too have the stock headunit with nav package and was wondering if the re-q or re-q5 is strong enough to give power to my 12" jl audio w3v2 subwoofer. I am keeping the speakers around the car stock.

I also have a rockford fosgate punch amp 1000 watt should I use this or is it unnecessary for the one sub?

OP, what did you end up doing and what does your set up look like?

Thanks

The re q5 is not an amplifier... You will need an amp along with this unit to power a sub

the other option for just adding a sub is the LC2i by Audio Control
RonRizz and snowsurfdirtx like this.
