Default 12v power for spare radio testing

I have a spare radio and would like to power it up for testing.

Is it safe to connect it to a battery jumper for the power source? The battery jumper puts out 12v, but I don't know if there may be too much current or other factors that can potential damage the radio?

Thanks.

As long as the voltage is correct, it will work fine. The source will only put out as much current as the radio calls for.

so the battery jumper puts out the same current/power as a normal car battery?

I don't know if the battery jumper puts out a big burst of current/power for jumping the car?

someone was telling me that it may damage the radio if i connect it directly to the battery jumper or car battery due to excessive current? I don't know much about electrical things....

Thanks.

Well, you should put a fuse in the circuit - just in case you short something out - but, if you wire it up right, it doesn't matter how much current the source can put out; it will only put out as much current as the radio needs. If the radio only pulls 0.5A, that's all the source will put out.

At your house, you have a source that can supply at least 100 Amps but your TV doesn't explode.
