Tesla style flat panel for 2015 Nismo
Hi all...I am new here and I wanted to post a question that I am sure has had a ton of discussion already. I have searched through the boards and I did come across the post concerning the flat screen install that died out.
However, I really wanted to get some direction from the group as far as a tesla style navigation / head unit is concerned. I did see a youtube vid of a guy that was able to use a tablet to fill the entire nav/headunit section and do some very basic functions with it...and that is encouraging...at least I do think there might be some options over at Mp3car.com for what they call a "Car PC" but I havn't really done any research there yet as I wanted to ask you guys first... Anyway, I just purchased a 2015 Nismo with the bose stereo but no nav unit. So my question is...is finding a Tesla style full screen touch panel anywhere near a reality for installing into my vehicle? If so...do you know where I can go to get it? If there are any custom audio shops online that sells/customizes audio/video for cars....I am even willing to have it built and sent to me if needed. And if not....then where do I go from here? I am looking for the following functionality: AM/FM Navigation Bluetooth Pandora ready WIFI capable / Internet Browsing TV / DVD capable Backup camera (OPTIONAL WANTS) Temp control Gauge monitoring I know I am asking for a lot...so feel free to be very honest with me... Thanks in advance. Zed |

Unless you can build the center console yourself it's not really financially practical to do a one off.

There are been a few attempts but I do not think any have come to market still.
You would be better off doing a dual screen setup, one is the headunit of your choice and the other is a tablet or screen with PC. This allows you to utilize standard equipment such as the OEM navigation piece and standard brackets.

Thnx Dreamer and #91... I thought this was going to be my answer and like I said...I just wanted to check with you guys first as I know there has been a serious demand for this. NOTE TO SELF: Come up with a Tesla Style Unit for the 370z and make a fortune! ...heh heh
Anyway...so another question...I have heard that if your vehicle does not have the factory nav unit installed (only the cubby) then buying the factory unit as an aftermarket item is no good either..because the wiring harnesses are not present. Is this correct? If it is...then a complete replace of something I like is in order...isn't it? Thnx again, Zed |

Thank you Dreamer. Your rig looks great! I am curious...do you have a parts list? Also did you do it yourself or have installed? And thank you for the link to the "build thread link." Yes...that is exactly what I am looking for....

This is an old part number I believe but this is the one I bought many years ago for the dash: Nissan - 68520
Screen: Accele LCDP7NB-B Unit: HKS Camp 2 Most of my items are gone or out of date but is a starting place, I had someone install it as the dash piece was OEM and just needed someone to mount the screen.

Thnx Dreamer.... I just bought my Z...tok delivery of it three days ago. Had it shipped to me (in Louisville, KY) from Scottsdale Arizona. My first Z and I am just getting use to everything. (MAN! the clutch is tight...) anyway....I am going to start doing some research and you gave me a good starting point. I truly want the Tesla style rig....so I am going to try and make that happen.... somehow ....

I think most people here are underestimating what it really takes to get a Tesla style screen.
Remember, these companies have teams (probably with 10 or more people) designing the head units. It probably takes a full year to get the user interface done alone. There was one guy who was trying to get it up: Tesla styled screen setup but the programming and raw material sourcing was the issue. I was in talks with another guy at a time to develop the bezel for his system, but that never took off either. Like the guys above said, just get a tablet that fits and make a custom bracket. I used the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 and designed my own bracket. I thought about selling the bracket, but never got definitive answers from the Mods to sell for a short time, so never bothered with it. I'd probably have to think about designing around another tablet too since the Tab S2 8.0 will probably have an EOL soon. But don't underestimate the process these manufacturers spend to even get their own set-up done. Even if it still sucks, like the stock navigation lol.

Charnathan...have you seen this...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_13IPpjElL0&t=42s Im not oppossed to Dreamer's solution and in fact...I have started looking into it. But...because of the Youtube video above.... I know there's a way.... and I think with a little (maybe a lot of..) money...a lot of time...some creativity...and some persistence...it would pay off to get a solution .... Anyway...I guess I'm just a glass is half full kind of guy.... |

Didn't see that, but looks pretty cool.
The work he did to link it is nice, but i'm sure he'd charge a premium or would take a while to do it on your own. The issue with his is that he doesn't have a bezel to go around the display. That will probably be $1000+ just for that. I'm not trying to be glass half empty, I'm just saying that you're better off doing your own custom work to take an existing tablet. It will probably be less than $1000 including custom fabrication. Having someone develop it, sell it for low volume and maintain it, would probably easily $3000. And even the software maintenance wouldn't be guaranteed. Thanks for sharing the video though...definitely getting me thinking on what I should do when my tablet goes kaput.
