I have a Kenwood DNX8120 which is a great HU pushing the amp and sub linked below. Am I getting the best outcome with this pair or am I robbing myself of some high quality sound? I love how it hits, deep bass and no distortion, but I always wonder how would a more expensive sub sound or a more expensive setup like Focal's would sound.

I had an Infinity sub years ago. Infinity sub is meh sound quality IMO. They are not bad but not good. As for the amp. They are also Meh. They can push some sound but IMO not as clean and clear as I would like my stuff to be. However, enclosure design, speaker size and how it was installed plays a decent role in how the bass sound comes together.

I have not heard the Focal sun in a car but heave heard it plenty of times in displays. They are nice but not something I would buy due to price.

Edit: My current bar (well has been fore years) for quality bass is the JL 10w3 or 10w6. Both of these subs hit nicely and sound really good! Heck, JL outright make really good BASS!

i have to agree with yzgz on that. infinity back in the day were top notch, but that's when they were made by harmon-kardon. personally, jl is definately the cleanest souding bass, but comes with a hefty price tag. if you want a sub that performs well and is very affordable, take a look at massive audio. im currently running a 12" massive audio summo, powered by and old school kicker zx1500.1 amp with a 2 farad cap and it sounds very very clean! i was skeptical about them at first, but i am beyond pleased with the performance of the sub.

I have it in a Zenclosure Box and the sound is cool, but was just wondering if the higher price tag for JL's or Focals would be much different, Thanks Guys.

Short and simple answer yes. It will sound A LOT better if you put in a 10w3 10'' JL in there.

i agree with them. jl's are the way to go. but all depends on your budget and what you ultimately want out of your sub.

Yeah infinity is Meh, look at JL or image dynamic, hertz, or even a mirage if you want to get serious. JL still is overpriced sadly why I shy away from them.

JL been overpriced since forever but the make darn good subs. That's why I consider them the industry standard bass wise. Everyone aspire to be them if not better than them. This is also why they can charge good $$ for there products. Funny thing is that there other drivers (mid and high) are very me sound quality wise. The old Infinity Kappa series were my standard for mid and highs for the longest time. Then they became meh all around.

Money isn't an issue, but I don't wanna shell out $300 for a single sub that's only slightly better in sound. I know the Infinity was sub par for the price, but for triple the cost on some of the more superior brands I just hope it's worth it. Hell, I spend most of the time just hypnotized in the sound of my exhaust at 3k-4k RPM's..................LOL!!!

If you like it as is, leave it alone and enjoy. It's hard to leave things alone when you see all this and that happening or hear this and that about something of interest. But if your happy, be happy.

That's true and why I've left it alone for so long, but just hearing about Focals and JL's have me wondering all the time about how much better or not the sound can be. I ordered the JL and If I don't think its worth it, I'll just send it back.

Well, is the new sub in? What do you think? Rate the old 0 to 10 then rate the new 0 to 10.
