Dumb question,probably...
I have a 2013 Sports. I mostly only listen to Pandora when driving. To do this, I bought a simple blue tooth device that plugged into the lighter and I had to find and match FM frequencies on the device and my FM stereo. Two problems. It started giving me problems trying to find frequencies when out of my home area and also, at times static would invade and take over even in my local area. Also, when I received a phone call, I could barely hear it and often missed calls.
Any advice on a good reliable one that does not require FM frequency matching? How about a navigation unit with blue tooth (don't need a receiver or CD player)? The local guy on the phone says that he could install a $199 system for $450. I don't want to spend that much just to get blue tooth connectivity. |

Just get one of these and call it a day. Forget that FM bs. You lose sound quality that way, as you've found.

For audio, yes. However, if you get a phone call the mic pickup is now from the BT dongle. So you might want to consider mounting it somewhere so that the sound isn't muffled when you talk. I have mine routed to come out from the driver side knee pad and mounts to that empty space to the right of the steering wheel.

Look at bestbuy. I bought a thing that plugs into the auxilary port and connects to my phone via Bluetooth

Bought several different ones, all had problems. The Isimple plugs into auxiliary, after a week, every time I entered the car, I had to sync with phone for connection and eventually, even that did not work. Another one plugged into the lighter socket and needed you to get a clear FM frequency and it played through FM. It too started having Bluetooth issues and also, every time I went out of town, needed to find another FM station.
Still trying to find a decent Bluetooth connection. Everything seems good but for only 1-2 weeks. |

You're trying to make the stock system do something it wasn't designed to do. Those BT modules are mostly garbage; never seen one work as well as built-in BT. Just buy a real head unit that includes BT; you don't have to spend a lot of money.

Depends upon how bad you want it and how long you plan to keep your car. I paid far more than that for my audio install, and I rarely listen to FM--probably less than an hour total since I bought the Z. But I plan to keep my Z quite a while, and I do enjoy having good audio and functional Bluetooth.

Who said that? I would DIY before I paid that much unless they specialize in audio installs. Also, I would never let one of the big box stores work on my Z
