Alternative to the Axxess ASWC

I see nothing but complaints about this damn thing not working. I tried it and hated it. Looked around and found this guy http://www.amazon.com/iDatalink-Maes...rds=maestro+sw I now use this thing and

Default Alternative to the Axxess ASWC

I see nothing but complaints about this damn thing not working. I tried it and hated it. Looked around and found this guy

I now use this thing and I LOVE IT. Program everything online. Basically input what type of headunit you have and which steering wheel you have and it'll let you program each button individually.

I also have a 2012 Base, and I was considering the Maestro. But Crutchfield was showing this not working with my car. It's good to hear that you do have it working.

So your Steering wheel controls do work through it? Any of the other features working? Gauges, etc.

I put the Axxess ASWC into my Z this week and it was easier than doing a PAC harness. I have a Kenwood and you literally tap 2 wires on the harness, ground one wire on the harness, and then connect the remote control on the headunit to the brown wire on the ASWC. It auto detected my kenwood and everything was programmed in 10 seconds.

If the ASWC can't detect you can manually set all the buttons up to do whatever you want. I have a friend who has one in his jeep and doesn't use cruise control so he programmed those to be answer/hangup for bluetooth.

I got the Maestro RR on heavy recommendation from my local audio shop as well as from Pioneer, specifically because I was putting in a AVIC-8000NEX... Everyone said get the Maestro RR. It's the only authorized button controller for my HU according to Pioneer. It's posted all over Pioneer's website.

But, there were a few problems.

1. You must use a Windows PC to do the programming. As a Graphic Designer, I have used a Mac almost exclusively for the last decade. I don't own a PC... So, finding an accessible PC to do the programming, though not impossible, was a pain. (though that may be mostly because Windows 8 is awful)

2. Then, I found out during programming that iDatalink doesn't have any support for the 370z and the Maestro RR to the 8000NEX. None. You literally cannot program it through their online setup because it won't even let you get to a manual programming screen. According to the iDatalink support person, they have been requesting the interface information from Pioneer for years now. Pioneer's customer support declined to comment on that. WTF!?

3. Mind you, the RR is their more expensive unit (about 3x as much as their lesser unit, the Maestro SW). It's supposed to have all the bells and whistles as far as reading and displaying data from the car's ECU with minimal difficulty for the installer/user. I had actually picked up an SW off of Ebay for super cheap before being pushed by everyone to pick up the RR, and it worked just fine. All steering buttons (except for the Bluetooth, of course) work without issue.

Just my $0.02.

Steering wheel controls work perfectly. You only get the gauges if you buy the Maestro RR and you need a certain headunit.

Yeah as far as that goes. Pioneer advertises that the Maestro RR works on their units but they're not supported by iDatalink yet.

Sadly Crutchfield shows a LOT of stuff not working for a car that does. including over half of the speakers they sell.

I think this would be an alternative to the aswc however I am still seeing the same wiring trouble if people are not fallowing the instructions for proper installation for the device to operate.

I do like that you can add secondary (press and hold) functions to all your buttons with the Maestro. I don't think you can do that with any of the others.

For the Datalink Maestro RR, is a wiring harness required for the 370z or is it just plug and play?

Thanks for the tip about this steering wheel control adapter. I installed the ASWC-1 in my 2013 Touring when I replaced the Bose head unit. The actual installation is the same for both, including using the same jumpers on the 32-pin plug at the Bluetooth module to regain the use of the phone control buttons. The main difference is that this unit can be programmed/reprogrammed using a mini USB cable and the utility on the Idatalink website. I have reprogrammed it a couple of times to change the secondary functions of some of the buttons. It's possible to add secondary button functions with the ASWC-1 but it's not as easy.

Any chance you know the wiring diagram? The one off the PDF is showing colors that are supposed to be used for the speaker output so I am not sure those match up with the metra harness adapter..
