Advice on crossover point and slope
My current setup consisted of DLS r6 component speaker feed by a JL audio 300/2 and an Infinity perfect 10 in a sealed enclosure feed by a JL audio 500/1
The DLS 6.5 go incredibly low I think the feq resp is around 30 to 20k . Of course I wouldnt run them that low . The JL's have built in crossovers of either 12 of 24bd slope .Currently running the fronts crossed at 80 12db and the rear at 85 12db . Also using an old school audio control eql (12band eq)to eq the front and an audio control 4.1 to eq to tweek on the fly for different sources etc. So the eql is a dynamic eq and the 4.1 is a stattic eq . Adjusting the crossover pt and slope is making me nuts so Im looking for any advice or suggestions Thanks |

The DLS r6 may go to 30hz on paper, but at what db? Normal mainline manufacturers will cut off the freq response spec's when the speaker dips below -3db. I doubt you will hear the r6 at 30 hz and would be a waste of amplification power. You have to consider your subs real freq response and what freq you will crossover at. I would crossover the r6 at around 80-100hz if you have your sub rolling off around there. I like steep slopes(24db) when crossing over. Remember not to overthink the crossover points and go with what sounds good to your ears.

Appreciate the help . I noticed if I cross the fronts at around 60 or so the bass seems to be comming more from the front ,the sub blends in really well . The higher freq I cross the front at,the more the sub pulls the bass to the rear

Right you are, sir. Nothing sounds better than a sub that blends into your front stage, IMHO.

I find it sounds best at around 80 to 90 but then the bass seems a little congested . I thought about using another eq (A second eql that I have ) to eq the sub so it blends better .There seems to be too much 50hz and not enough 70hz .The eql has 45,60,and 90 hz adjustments .Of course this is all with the slopes at 12db .If I change to 24db that will change . Ive seen some people run the fronts at 12db and the sub at 24db . Its a PIA to change the freq and slope on the front since the amp is in a remote location . |

I personally would never go above 80. I would try it at 60. remember, the higher you go, the more directional it becomes, and will start to pull the bass to the rear of the car.
