Premium HU in a base model 370z
I have a 2009 base with sports package, it has the basic stereo with single disc and not much else. I am planning on eventually putting some type of,deck, with navigation in there but for now just a simple question.
I recently picked up an OEM premium HU and am thinking about installing that in the short run since it has a few more features that the base HU. Has anyone tried this and if so may I ask for your experiences and thoughts on the matter. I am assuming that it would be an easy swap but I have looked long and far and have not been able to locate a thread on this subject. Any and all advice or comments are most appreciated. Respectfully, James (Puke) |

I'm not positive, but thinking that the wire harness would be different going from base radio to bose radio. Hold on to that factory radio bezel, though! Will come in handy when you put in the aftermarket HU.

Any OEM HU is garbage and not worth your trouble. Plus I think it's probably an incredible pain in the a$$.
If you did not do your research before buying the car, consider yourself lucky you do not have the Bose system. People upgrade various components of the base system without issue. Upgrading the Bose system is much more of a pain in the a$$ depending on what you want to do. Most people end up ripping out the entire system.

You would need the bose amp as well as all the harnesses, not worth the time or effort to even try to install it. Aftermarket would be much better.

yah, for short term on the cheap, probably best just hooking up your phone directly to the aux or through a BT receiver..
HU's are pretty cheap (price) these days though for a decent one. |
