Anyone know what it costs a dealer to certify a car?

I'm going to say it costs a dealer nothing. If it does cost them something, it's probably MINISCULE compared to how much more they'll charge the buyer because it's now "Certified". I say this because when I was buying my Nismo, it was not CPO, so I said that my terms were as long as they certified it, I would buy it, and they agreed. From what I know the dealer completes a checklist of criteria for certification and I believe it took the tech about an hour to do that. So, yes, there probably is a very small cost to the dealer but the dealer also said because it's now certified, it would easily sell for $2-$3k more than the original price.

depends on how much they have to spend to bring car up to manufacturer checklist standards. Then there will be a fee on top that dealer pays usually $400-$600 on top of that.

Plus they come with a 100K warranty from Nissan.

Drew, nailed it. I work for a Honda dealership and it costs anywhere from $405-$600 to certify a car on top of bringing the car up to spec.

It probably varies, but a Honda dealer (who is a trusted friend) told me it cost over $800. He was complaining to me because he finds that customers under-appreciate all that is involved.

When I was shopping for my Z, I came across a preowned Z that wasn't certified, and asked why. Without getting into the details, the Nissan dealer told me it costs them approximately $500 to put the certified preowned stamp on a Nissan.

It's the same here at the Mercedes dealer that I work at. Are cars go through a pretty long inspection. If the car needs a service, brakes, tires, etc it gets it so it can be cpo.

Costs my dealership $500 just to be certified plus however much they spend on getting it past the 160 point inspection.

Is a CPO worth it? Depends who you ask.
