recommended WINTER TIRES

Hey guys and gals. My fiancé and I are currently moving to Denver, Colorado and wanted to hear some suggestions on which tires to get for the snow. I really dont know what to expect in terms of driving or tire brand to get if there is any particular one that is better than others. Anything will help. Thanks!

I currently have a set of Blizzak LM60s on my car. 245/45/18 - not sure if they make them in this size anymore. I've yet to test them out in the snow but they have been great in the cold weather and rain.

If you don't already have 18's, I would suggest a second set of wheels as well.

I've had Michelin X-Ice 3's 245/45/18 on my car for the past three winters. Work great on both snow and ice.

I'm in south tx so I don't know how snow tires work but if they're sticker in the snow wouldn't these be great for the summer at the drag strip?

Snow tires would really suck at the drag strip! The rubber compound is designed to remain pliable in cold weather and to grip the ice and when it gets warm they get pretty greasy and slippery! There has been a couple times that the season had changed and I forgot I still had snows on and spun out taking a corner too aggressive for the limited traction.

Spend just a little more and get yourself a beater to drive in winter. I picked up an '04 Grand Cherokee for $1500...

Reasoning:
1) Even with snow tires, the Z isn't meant for snow and will suck compared to a normal FWD car.
2) You should really have a set of winter rims for the snow tires, so now you're looking at a lot more $ than just the rubber.
3) Even if you don't actually skid out and crash, do you really want to subject your Z to all the salt, cinder and calcium that eats paint and causes rust?

I bought the Blizzak WS80s on 4 squares (225/50 R18) which came as a recommendation from tirerack as the best performance setup for snow. This far we have not had much snow this season in Chicago, but the one time we did the Z felt really solidly planted and produced very little slippage.

What I did notice, is that you have to be very careful with the rear wheels spinning with the narrow tires. Both the wifey and I have spun out our first times before getting used to the new setup. It's kind of a bummer because you can't really step on the gas off the line for fear of shredding the tires!

yah, shouldve gone 245 rears at least.

no spin outs for me running LM60 225 front and 245 rears on my G a few yrs back. and that was in pretty deep snow.

I get a kick out of guys with trucks asking how i can drive my car in the winter with rwd...well your truck is rwd...i have more weight over my rear tires then you, i should be asking you! LOL
