20 mm Bolt-On (DRM) Spacers … A Couple of Questions
I'm considering installing 20 mm bolt-on spacers on the front and rear. To those of you who have installed this type of spacer, I have a couple of questions:
First, have any of you experienced the "fit" issues on the front that have been reported for the 15 mm bolt-ons? A quick search revealed one member who reported the same issue, but I'm not sure if it ever got resolved. I'm expecting they fit, but just want confirmation. Second, when driving on wet roads, do you find that the spacers cause excessive spray onto the doors and/or leading edge of the rear fender … which could lead to paint damage over time? Again, a quick search showed one member who reported having to buy front mud guards to reduce the amount of spray hitting the doors. Unfortunately, I don't live in California, Arizona or wherever else it rarely rains! Would appreciate any input. Thanks … and have a Merry One! |

With my 20mm spacers up front,I don't really notice spray up the side of the car and I live in a city where it rains quite a bit (west coast). I do wash my car once a week and give the car all the options through the car wash,so it probably helps repel a lot of road grime. Personally I like the look of the 20mm up front. Looks pretty flush.

Yes,I'm running 25mm. This is where it gets tricky. I put the spacers on and on stock alignment,they had a bit of poke. I then installed my swift springs,and from lowering the car,my wheels now have a bit of tuck. So if you plan on lowering the vehicle,I'd recommend the 25's. And when you go to get a wheel alignment,give it a little more camber than stock on front and back,that way you'll sit flush and your car will handle a little better around corners. As long as camber is not too extreme,and you rotate your tires properly,your tires will wear normally. Nothing wrong with a weeee bit of poke either. Hope that helps.

Just to add,if you don't plan on lowering,you might want to go with 20's depending on what your tastes are. And if you do plan on lowering,but want to keep stock alignment,I'd recommend the 20's as well. I think with 25's lowered with stock camber in the rear would rub some. Maybe someone who has this setup can chime in as I don't know personally.

I've got 20mm H&R bolt-ons all around & lowered on Swift springs. I do also have SPC front & rear camber kit installed.
No problems.

Oh-Oh ... I wondered if I would get conflicting opinions.
When you say "Yes" to the fit issue, did you find that the wheel would not sit flush against the spacer? If so, I wonder if the issue is specific to the stock 19" Rays. In terms of the spray issue, I'm not surprised. Funny that the others report no problems. Are you running stock tires ... or have you switched to wider versions that may be more prone to throwing the spray back against the doors? |

Just noticed that both Merv and Rumblefish have the Sport version ... and presumably are running with the 19" Rays ... evidently without any fit issues. Just to be clear, I'm talking about the known fit issue for the 15 mm bolt-ons where the wheel will not sit flush against the spacer. Most vendors have a warning that speaks to this issue ... but I don't see a similar warning for the 20 mm bolt-ons.
