widening stock sport wheels
Has anyone had their stock sport wheels widened? Im thinking of having the rears widened to 12 inches wide by adding 2 inches to the inside and using a 25mm spacer, fronts widened to 10 inches with 20mm spacer. Would like to use a 325-335 rear tire. Any suggestions?

Um is this possible? I have never heard of having a wheel widened.

I had a set of stock 350z track wheels widened by weldcraft. $225 per wheel for one inch. I use them with my R-compounds. Check out my gallery. Had I not found a great deal on these wheels ($500), I would have used the stock 18s.

Wow this is the first time I hear of wheel widening, how do the widened wheels hold up when abused in the track?
|
from the readings they hold up very well to track use/abuse. actually it was born for track use, i think...started off with funny cars (& drag racers), i believe?
widening and they can do narrowing too. |
It is very common and pretty good if you have a reputable shop do it. Though I have been told you should not mention it as some places do not like you taking a stock or any wheel and widening aftermarket.

It sure does sound interesting, I would love to widen my wheels but at that asking price, I'd rather sell my OEM wheels and just upgrade to wider wheels?
|
yah, but then that's missing the point. :D hahaha.

When widening wheels, do they give you the option of widening from one end only? (to reduce offset basically) or do they widen equally from both ends keeping OEM offsets?
|
Normally they widen from the inside only, but depending on the wheel they can widen to the outside also, it coats more though, because they have to grind the welds flush, since they are extending the lip.
In my case, I wanted 18" track wheels and couldn't find anything that worked at A reasonable price, so I made my own. $1400 total for the set and they are forged and weigh under 20 pounds each |
^ interesting, I will be stalking your albums if you don't mind then :)
|
I would love to have the front wheels widened to 9.5 inches wide. I might have to look into this.
|
I'm not sure how the offset would like you widening the wheels by an inch on the inside. I'd have to measure stock clearance of the tire to the strut spring seat.
