Comparing sidewall stiffness: S-04 vs PSS

For anyone who has directly compared both, which has the stiffer and/or more stable sidewall?

I'm getting a M235i in soon (xdrive) and looking for good summer tires. I have S-04's on my 370Z and really like them, but on hard corners they do roll a little before they bite. Just curious if the PSS is better or worse - both tires have been mentioned to have a softer sidewall in this category.

The PSS is probably worse

I only have experience with the PSS's on my car however my buddy has the S-04s on his Evo and they seem about the same to me as far as the sidewall stiffness.

Id say the difference is marginal at best. The biggest difference in these two tires is weight and cost. So if weight is a concern go with PSS. If not, and cost is, then pick up another set of S04's.

If you want stiff, go RE11.

i've never had S-04's but last year i ran PSS's.

handling was great and i didnt have many issues with sidewall roll except when i ran the dragon. it was notciable there quite a bit lol

not to make it harder to decide but the RE-11s im running now held up much better on the dragon than the PSS sidewalls.

I was considering the RE-11, not sure I can take the tread life though.

Are S-04 the same as RE-050a?

Amuse370z 11-21-2014 11:29 PM

All I can say is....I love my S-04s. I went from the stock base 18" set up to 19" S-04 set up.

It was night and day.

Yah but not to be taken as uncomfortable. re11's are comfy tires while stiff.

No. S04's are better in every way.

So putting yours and Chan Chee Ho's comments together the sidewall is stiffer than the PSS?

I drove my 2011 Z for 3 years with the stock RE-050's. I thought they were OK, but when I got this 2014, I immediately swapped the RE-050s for S-04s. I haven't pushed them enough to know how they are at the edge, but they do feel a little more responsive than the RE-050s, they're quieter, and they do better in heavy rain/standing water.
