S-04's don't fit as well at RE-11s in these sizes. the sidewalls are different and so is the section width. they fit but dont look nearly as good. also i'm unsure as to any performance decreases based on the fitment of the S-04s being odd.

i buy tires just as much as year round driving people i would assume. i DD my Z and i know it's like 50/50 with people who DD it and just weekend drive it based on location as well. i buy a full set of rubber every spring and this next spring i may add in a set of rear DR's just for fun. well that is if i can ever find a 18" wheel that'll clear the rear brakes or just end up with a ABS/traction lights with a oversized set of 19 DRs in the rear.

great grip, lots of comments from autocross instructors about grip, they are a summer tire...

They look great on the car, and I do not use wheel spacers

I just put S-04's on my Z a few months back and they are probably your best bang for your buck tire out of all choices stated above. Drag strip is no issue with less tire noise than my stock yokos. As far as a track day I would be iffy tho. Softer quieter ride thus a little floaty feeling up front. This has gotten better over time tho and sticking pretty good. I also drive a base with 18's so this could be a difference somewhat compared to the 19's. Change all four tires too. Trust me on this

I am just doing SO4's for the rear. Half tread on the OEM front and no reason to replace them. Guess we will see how it does. It can't be any worse than driving on onion grips on the back in the rain. LOL, that's been fun. Driving with your car on it's limits always is a challenge. Keeps you on your toes.

I did the same thing too at first and immediately had the front two installed. My car had a mind of its own steering handling wise. Hope this isn't the case for you

It will be a handful for 500-1000 miles while the sealer wears off the rears. It will be loose as a goose in the backend. If I put it in the weeds, you can laugh at me then. :)

Well, new rears are on. I got the opposite of what I expected. I have much more traction in the rear now. Have to wait for the fronts to heat up a bit and then it is not too bad. Guess I will see what happens when they break in good. It is a little twitchy at the moment. Nismo bump steer sucks. These springs have got to go. Will have to wait until next year at bonus time.

They will get better over time and miles.

Any modifications to make 265/35/19 and 305/30/19s fit? Are these on the stock Rays?

The consensus is no, these fit the stock rays just fine.

So, I've narrowed my choices down to 1 of 2 sizes (I think).

1) 255/40/19, 285/35/19.

Small width upgrade on stock sizes, keeps the relative ratio (overall diameter) between front and back pretty close. Slightly taller, which sucks, but dropping a to 35/30's in this width doesn't work. Should keep handling relatively neutral. 265's in the front is more common but it might lead to a hint of oversteer. Cheaper than 265/305.

2) 265/35/19, 305/30/19.

Way more tire than I need. With only bolt on's this amount of grip is more than enough. Actual contact patch after the slight pinch doesn't seem to be that much more than a 285 will provide out back. Unsure if I will need an alignment/suspension mods after going this much wider.

If it matters, I'm leaning towards RE11's but haven't counted out the S04's because of the price difference. Also going to add spacers at some point but nothing crazy, 15mm/20mm most likely.

Thoughts? Did I get any of the explanations wrong?

I think RE11s are too much tire for what you need, you are not taking your car to a road course. I run huge RE11s because I like the grip when taking hard corners, car turns like it is on rails, no push and coming out of the turns, the Z feels like Hamilton's F1 car.
I run 15mm on my 275 in front, fits perfect on stock Rays. I am running 20mm on my 305 in rear, I think 15mm would have been better, still the tire fits great on the stock Rays. In fact I just ordered a pair of 15mm for the rear, so I will be running 15mm f/r

s04's are not at the same level as the re11's. i know cause i have them both. go with the re11's for your hobby car.

for a dd, s04's will do more than fine, and then some.
