Will different size wheels cause ABS issues?
Hey guys I have a 2014 Nissan Altima with OE 215/60/16 wheels/tires.
I want to upgrade to the 370z Sport 19'' wheels but it is a staggered set up- front : 245/40/19 rear: 275/35/19 I read on another forum a member having issues with different tire sizes: '' little did i know when i installed them on my ALTIMA SEDAN the computer shut off the engine power and ABS brake system seemed like it was braking the car. SO after reading about my problem i found out that the tires sizes for the Altima have to be the same or no more than 3% different. Im gonna save and buy all four 235- 40-19 or 245-40-19'' - Quote from other member on another forum Never heard of anything like this before.. so I wanted to check on this before purchasing the new set up. |
The difference in size should not cause issues with the ECU, but you will be going faster than what is displayed on your speedo. @ 65 MPH displayed you will be going 66.4. You might want to drop the tires down to 35 fronts and 30 rears, so your displayed speed is slower than your actual speed, in case you have a run in with a speed trap.

Some additional information from the same member after I asked him a question
''yeah the car immediately recognized the difference in tire size. what i think the problem is the tire height difference from the two taller and two lower tires. the tires are with/height/rim 235/30/19 front very low compared to 245/45/19 back very tall. so the fronts were spinning faster than the rears. making the computer detect slippage and traction. Compared my stocks to the new tires:
Tire Size Comparison Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference 215/60-16 5.1in 13.1in 26.2in 82.2in 771 0.0% 245/40-19 3.9in 13.4in 26.7in 83.9in 755 2.1% 275/35-19 3.8in 13.3in 26.6in 83.5in 759 1.6% |

The 45s are from another member (not 370z sport 19'') |
There are several threads on this topic.
Yes; if there is enough difference in tire height/diameter, traction/stability systems will not work properly. Apparently, there is no published tolerance for how much difference there can be in tire diameter before the control systems balk but anecdotal evidence seems to indicate that it is around 3% (IIRC; check the other threads for details). |
Here is what I found:
Front: So the front diameter variance is 2.14% which as long as it's under 3% should be fine for the front. Rears: So the rear diameter variance is 1.61% which as long as it's under 3% should be fine for the rear. My source is 1010tires.com. Use the tire size calculator to compare different size tires. |
Does anyone know if this can be fixed with a tune?

OEM 19" sizes are 245/45R19 which is 678.6mm tall, and 275/35R19 which is 675.1 mm tall and the difference between the 2 is 0.52% |

Now the only thing to check is if they will rub or have clearance issues on a stock 2014 Altima. |

If you don't already have the Z wheels, why not just get (4) fronts?? Don't worry about the stagger that way. |
