The main problem is you come and ask for suggestions and most suggest that if you pay an arm and a leg for a wheel it's better. Then when you ask why they cant answer. if you have any experience in the manufacturing world and or business world you would soon find out that that is just not true.
Like someone said you have all age groups, diff tastes etc... but just listen to the replies and you can pick the uninformed ones. They are they first to tell you pay 8000 or 10000 dollars for a set of rims that go on a 33000 car, seems kinda dumb if you ask me. kinda like the guy that has a benz living in an apartment. nothing wrong with that if that is what you choose just doesnt make since to the avrg. guy.
Now if you own a 100,000 car like some folks i can see that being spent on wheels it's all proportion(sp). Pick the wheels you like check the reputation of the manufacturer and go for it. you will never get a straight answer from anyone as to why this wheel is better than that wheel,it's simply choice.
I am a bussiness owner and i wish some of these carts were buyers in my world i could retire quickly!!! go and talk to some people that are deep into oil development , plastic, tires you will be shocked. The list goes on and on. but sure as the sun will shine some 15 year old will quickly jump in and tell you "you get what you pay for" :shakes head:

^You do get what you pay for, but too a point.

I don't think you can argue that a set of Tenzo rims or Konig rims are as good as a set of Volk one piece monoblocks.

I will say though that you could argue that rims more expensive than Volk (360 Forged and HRE) aren't necessarily better than Volks.

So you do get what you pay for but only to a certain point. Eventually you hit a point where the performance gains aren't as large as the amount of money spend to obtain them.

i can agree to a point. Everyone here is not buying wheels for performance. They want to change the look. The weight of the wheel is not important to some. If you are strictly for performance you look at performance wheels period. Wheels are made of certain materials some lighter some stronger??
It's like the old stereo question what amp is best? what speaker is best? what is your budget and what are you looking to do with it?
More expensive doesn't nec. reflect better product !!! Do some work on it and you will see. Public opinion polls is all we have, no facts, no proven data , just marketing and opinions. If you want to convince a knowledgeable person that this is better than that bring facts, not opinions. I'm open to all discussion because i'm not a wheel expert so please show me.

I agree, if you aren't in the market for performance rims then recommending expensive performance rims wouldn't be a good recommendation. I also completely agree with the setting a price point and features you want and begin your search there. Also this is why I recommended to the OP that he check into the Axis wheels. They have lots of different types of styles that meet the needs of many all while keeping their prices more affordable than some of the other manufacturers.

As far as bringing facts about wheel manufacturers and features, I'm too lazy to go find the specs of different Volks vs some crappy rims but I didn't recommend Volks in the first place. You're welcome to search the forums, there is plenty of talk and articles regarding the forging process, weights, and strength.

Oh and everyone knows the best speakers are Martin Logan Electorstats! (I'm joking but they are my personal preference and I own them soo :D)

thanks, I'll definitely look into Axis....shine or super hiro w/ red strip, hope it match with my black Z...

if anyone know someone's selling their sets let me know.

There's a Chicane Z on here with black super hero's with a yellow stripe and it looks absolutely amazing. (mind you I hate black wheels, his just looks that fuckin good!)

The shine also look pretty nice, there was a pic on some 20's floating around somewhere I thought but it's another nice one

Not really, at least not where wheels and tires are concerned. On a 3 year lease, he would have to replace the tires before turn in, probably right before. Why not take the originals off, buy new wheels and tires and enjoy them for 3 years, then put the new ones on at turn in and sell the wheels. Its still money out of pocket, but at least you aren't buying the new tires for the next owner.

Nothing wrong with leasing if you never pay a car off either, at least you know your total costs going in. I haven't leased a lot of cars (on my 3rd, out of 31 total new car purchases), but all have worked out better than expected.

wat! u have to change a new set of tires???
yea...i was gonna powdercoat my OEM rims, but I figured I cant powdercoat it back to the original color when I turn it in.

To the OP, I was also on a budget and picked up a set of aftermarket rims used for a great price. Keep an eye on the classifieds and jump on the right deal when it comes along.

mine were only $75 a piece but I figure since the stock 370 rims are 19's, wider, and a little more elaborate it would cost more. Thats how I came up with that arbitrary number.

pricing varies by region and shop capability. If you go to a production line shop with an automated line and continuous feed oven, they are going to be cheap. If you go to a custom powdercoater like myself, not so much. I start at 100 per wheel for solid colors and go up for two tones. The production shops do a fine job also, but as a one person operation, I have ultimate quality control, and I price according to how much oven time will take away from my core business of brake calipers. I can do over $2000 worth of brake calipers in the time I do a 400 set of wheels.
