Tire Pressure

I took my first decent road trip this weekend- about 1/3 of the way back home the TPMS light started flashing and stayed on. After stopping and kicking the tires, checking for nails, etc... I found a walmart and grabbed a Pressure gauge. (new car- didn't have one in it) I was quite surprised to find out how over inflated the tires were. I guess the TPMS system measures the pressure differential between all tires, and not the exact tire pressure.

The LF was the closest at 37 psi, all other tires were between 42-43 PSI. I got home and let the tires cool down overnight, and they were still ~5 psi above the 35 psi spec on the door jam. I brought all the tires down to 35 psi and let them sit overnight again. Checked again before I left for work this morning, all are still spot on. Guess the factory/port/dealer should invest in a decent tire gauge.

Been happening to me lately as well, although my pressures are within 2 lbs front to back. Light flashes at startup, stays lit randomly and comes and goes as it pleases. Everytime I have stopped to double check, but I think it may just be a bad sensor.

Exactly the same thing happened to me. When I questioned the "kid" who did the PDI on my 370, he said that he never checked the pressures. Kudos to him for not lying, BUT...WTF? Did Nissan over-inflate my tires from the factory? They were at 45psi when my TPMS lamp went off.

Easy fix, mind you. But it's the thought... did Nissan over-inflate my tires?

Mine stays on cause of the left rear. I like to keep my pressure around 32-34 lbs to give me some good grip in these tires. if it hits lil low that lil light stays on then randomly cuts off. I wish nissan would have put a TPS gauge in our menu selection that would have been helpful!!! I checked all three tires before i got to the low one... I am not over inflating to get rid of the light lol I will rock my lil light knowing I get better performance out of the tires...

on RE050A's i run 37-39psi cold.

sometimes the sun can throw-off the pressure reading...depends on how much direct sunlight was hitting the tires prior to delivery...

1PSI change per ~10F ambient up or down.

best to measure in the morning after your car has been garaged for more than 5hrs in the shade.

I wouldnt doubt that nissan over inflates the tires from the factory because of the amount of time the cars sit around before they actually get to the dealerships.

I had read some cautions about high tire pressures on new vehicles before I bought my Z a few weeks ago. I had a good quality dial-type gauge in a small gym bag with some other stuff I removed from my trade in, so about a mile from the dealership I pulled into a gas station and checked them. All 4 tires were at 44-45 PSI. It was also a day with temps in the high 90's so I bled them down to 38 lbs before hitting the freeway for the 110 mile journey home. The next morning I checked them and all were at 35 PSI. I did have the TPMS go off one very cold morning on my G35 Coupe. Kind of freaked me out. I got out and checked and all 4 tires were down to about 26 lbs. I believe the Infinti threshold was <7 lbs below recommended would trigger it.

Went drag racing 2 weeks after i got my car. Never touched the psi until i got home that night. Couldnt figure out why i was spinning in 1st and 2nd so bad...front tires were at 45psi and both rear tires were at 47psi....wtf was the dealership or factory thinking

Let me get this straight you did what 2 weeks after you got your presumably New car? all I can say is WoW! unless you put a couple thousands miles for a break-in. anything less than that I'm basically in shock how someone would do that. But to each his own. My apologies to the OP.

so basically similar thing happened to me

i didnt know what that yellow light was so i checked the owner's manual to see that it was the TPMS sensor

so i did a check around to see that it is 32psi and the factory recommendation is 35.

is it going to be a problem if im going to go on a road trip to vegas which is a 450-500 mile round trip?

If you can - stop at a gas station just before you leave (tires as close to cold as possible) and bring them all up to pressure.

Running low isn't good for gas mileage or tire wear, however 450 miles shouldn't matter either way..

yea i would do that but the thing i am worried about is that the tires are filled with nitrogen. Is that really going to matter?

I really miss the TPMS gauge in the 350 that gave you NUMBERS, even if they were not terribly accurate.
