Default Fender/Offset question. Sort off.

Now that I have an actual Z sitting in my garage, I was able to measure things more accurately as far as offsets and the look I want.

One thing I noticed, is that the rear fender is only as thick as sheet metal, were as the front fender has a 0.5" edge on it.

I guess my question is - for a good look on stock height, how close should I get to those fenders so that there is no rubbing.

I think I would want to stay just inside the fenders. Right?

And if I did that , would it look odd that the front is 0.5" more in due to that fender edge being thicker?

Is this a dumb question? You can tell me, I am a big boy. I can take it.

Or you could roll your front fenders to get rid of that lip on inside if you want more room.

I am going with after market wheels.

I am not looking to get more room, just curious how close I should get to the fenders. Nothing too aggressive.

If youre going aftermarket, then vhoose the proper wheels so spacers wont be necessary. Gotta do a bit of reading because rim size amd width play a part in how the offset will look. It gets complicated. Easy thing to do, search through members cars, see their setups, find what you like and use their settings.

Wait, I'm missing something, what color and model Z cooltoy? I know you were collecting parts when your Z arrives. Now I see you have one finally. Congrats on you Z!

Thanks. I appreciate your response.

I am well educated in offsets (thanks t the good people here) and I already have the rims picked out.

I think you misunderstood my question (or I did not word it properly). What I am trying to decide is what width tires to get. Obviously the rim is the rim and that can not be changed (other then with spacers), but the tire width will effect how close the overall wheel set up gets to the fender.

I was wondering how close I should get to the edge of the fender in order to be safe. 2 mm, 3 or more?

What the hell, you haven't owned a 370Z this whole time?!?!?!

I think you're looking at wheels backwards. Find a set you like, then width, then tire you wanna run, then offset

for me, i also consider the width of wheel and where the offset is looking from behind the car. lots of folks just push out their narrow 275 (10inch) sport wheels but it looks weird from the back... like a spider or crab or something.

i like my wheels tucked in the fender/quarter arch but not sunken in, and from the rear i like to have the width so that it fills the wheel well not just at the body arch, but also towards the axle/hub.

for this, nismo wheels are perfect imo for stock height.

That is all done. The offset have been decide (they are ones that are available and can not be changed).

The only thing to decide is the tire width. That's why I am asking about how close to get to the inside of the fender. If choose a narrow tire vs a wider tire, the tire will be more sunk in of stick out closer to the fender. I want to go with the widest possible, but how far out is too far?

Is this with stock sized tires, or did you go wider?

im using the stock nismo size which is 245/40/19 and 285/35/19.

work also has emotion that you can special order in offsets similar to the nismo's. they are like 19x9.5 ET38 and 19x10.5 ET22

only down side is they are heavier than the nismos by 3-4 lbs.
