Another shaking steering wheel thread.
I bought the car with slight shake while braking. Recently I put a set of bolt on spacers by power by max on the car(pbm). I have 20mm on the rear and 22mm on the front. I have shaved down the factory studs so they don't stick out from the spacer and re seated the spacers a few times. But I still have a pretty bad steering wheel shake at 45mph and up. I ordered some new rotors and pads today for the front so I will try that. I also has the wheels rebalanced and I've had a alignment within the last 5k miles. Any input from you guys is greatly appreciated.

Since you shaved the studs down they are no longer ballanced...thus explaining the imbalances.

I clicked on this thinking I could read about the issue as my 09' sport just started the same thing during light breaking. Goes away at heavy breaking.
Stock everything and I had a local shop check the wheel balancing... guess Ill bring it to another |

Probably one of the rotors is glazed or warped. If you still have the shake after replacing the rotors, then you may have a steering linkage problem.

yeah thats what im thinking... once i get the rotors in and install them ill let you guys know if anything has changed. im just thinking that if it was a warped rotor that by adding spacers im only going to amplfy the problem by having the wheel further out. maybe i sound stupid but its just a thought

It could be a bunch of things. Glaze on the rotor is just the most common cause.
The spacers may make things worse but not as much as you might think. Depends on what is causing the vibration. Check again after replacing the rotors/pads. If the vibration disappears, you can pretty well bet that one of the rotors was the problem. While you have the rotors off would be a good time to check the steering out. Look for any bent or scraped up parts. Grab everything you can and see if you can feel any looseness.

If your old rotors are OK to be turned, I'd have them turned so that the next time this happens, you have immediate replacements. Only if the old rotors are thick enough to be turned/have high spots removed.

cutting the stock studs in equal lenghts should not cause vibrations. |

In any case, IF that was the problem, the car would shimmy at speed, not JUST during braking

Well the car does shake at any speed above 40 mph and when I touch the brakes it gets worse. Lol there are just too many things it could be |

So i replaced the rotors and pads today and it fixed the vibration while braking. The vibration in the car and steering wheel is still there at higher speeds. I did notice that there is some play in my front passenger hub bearing. So it seems that is next. Where would you guys buy a bearing or a hub/bearing assembly from?

For bearings, most auto parts stores will have what you need. I try to get bearings made by SKF, Timken, or Fafnir, but I'm sure there are other good brands out there.
For the hub, you may have to go to Nissan.
