Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position Tires

I purchased a set for my Nismo yesterday from the Tire Rack and they just arrived today at my local installer. Going to get them installed on Saturday along with a 4-wheel alignment. I will report back with my initial findings.

$860 including shipping for a set of 4 from Tireack.com which I think is a pretty good deal. I got 15,400 miles out of the OEM Yokohama's (just barely touching the wear bars in the rear) so hopefully these will last me a little longer.

they probably wont, but they are overall much better tires than the yok advans.

So, I got about 100 miles on them so far and here's my initial impression:

Pros: Much softer riding tire with WAY better bump absorption than the Yokohamas. The brutal and punishing ride that the Nismo is famous for has been tamed by a noticeable margin. Also the steering wheel is rock solid now on the freeway and is not moving around trying to follow every little imperfection in the road, probably due to the fact that the tire has more give now.

Much cheaper than the OEM Yokohamas. I got a full set of 4 from Tire Rack for $860 shipped.

Looks every bit as good as the OEM tires.

Cons: This tire gives up quite a bit of the sharp turn-in that the Yokohamas have, but overall grip is roughly the same. It feels as if the car is moving around more in the corner, but it's not sliding or losing traction. It's very disconcerting at first, but you get used to it.

So far I am very happy with these tires. Now let's see how long they last. :-)

I haven't noticed any loss of cornering ability, nor any sliding around. I have about 500 miles on my S-04s. Only difference I've noticed over the OEM RE050As is that they're quieter.

What size tires did you get? I see the 245/40R19
You have the OEM NISMO rims?

I would venture to guess that since the RE050A is also made by Bridgestone, it would have similar handling characteristics to the S-04. That's probably why you didn't notice any difference.

The Nismo comes with Yokohama Advans as the OEM tire and it gives a much different steering feel. The grip is still there with S-04s, but the steering response is slower.

OEM sizes. 245/40-19 front and 285/35-19 rear. Yes, OEM Nismo rims.

you'll want to break in the tires a little more to get the full grip of those S04's.
advans are too stiff imho as it causes tramlining on nismo wheels (no spacers) yet the grip is no better than S03's. advans feel like dated tires.

100 miles isnt enough time to get a proper break in on the so4's. wait until 500 miles then report back.

also they "should" last longer than the factory advans.

yah, the advans wear very quickly for sure... probably even faster than the RE050A's on the regular sport 19's. i put like 4k miles and down to 4/32 or something on the inner threads. lol

will be swapping tires when i want to go back to my nismo wheels. will probably go with S04's.

Yea once I saw these on special I ordered a set yesterday and arrive today. For almost half the price of tires I was originally going with (PSS), can't complain. And their ranked second on tirerack.

Might not be satisfied with the size/spec I got, (265/35 - 295/30) -a little thin for my taste especially on expensive wheels, but will at least give me time and visual to make a decision
