Default Am I the only one getting screws in my sidewall?

I searched the threads pretty thoroughly and I'm just curious because although I know it's happened to some of you I'm wondering is it a common thing for us to be getting screws in the sidewall? I live in Southern California and I know there's potholes and such in bad areas but I do my best to avoid tire shops, junk yards, Home Depot and alleys to avoid nails and I've had nails in my tires in previous cars but this is the second time within maybe 3 months I get a long f*n screw right in the sidewall.. Would've cost me $350 to replace the sport bridge stones but I walked away with hankook instead.. WTF? Is someone doing it on purpose? Haters gonna hate but damn this is expensive!

I am from So Cal as well and have not had any issues.. Its not like our cars would be more prone to picking up nails or screws. Just dumb luck

I hope you replaced all 4 with Hankooks. I dont understand why I see so many people who are running different brands of tires front and rear.

Because why replace 4 when you need 2? When the others go out, swap to the rear brand.

It depends where you are driving... if there's a lot of construction around, for example, this can be a huge PITA and happen more frequently than might be expected.

Yeah I was in the Rialto area so that's a definite possibility, major PITA but it happens I guess..

That was my first choice but they had to special order it and I had to get to work so the hankook had to do because I didn't want a kumho or china brand... But I only did the one because I didn't see sense in wasting money if it's the same size and the other tires have under 7k

I see where you're coming from but I only replaced the one tire because the rest are still pretty new. I figured same size, good brand, shouldn't make too big of a difference. Don't mean to sound ignint but I asked the question because I know the sport pack tires are slightly stretched to fit and given the wide stance of the car especially in the rear I wondered if it was more common than other cars... Trust me it feels ghetto knowing I have one different tire, I don't like it but I don't see the sense in replacing a $400 tire that I don't even plan on keeping.. When it's time to switch I figure around 20k? I'll be looking at other tires but I don't think these tires are all that great for me

I guess it depends on the way you drive. But I know if they are tires that have very different compounds and grip levels it can be dangerous, especially when driving the car the way its meant to be driven.

I appreciate your input..Of course, and while I do enjoy my car and I'm relatively new to modding and such I doubt everyone out there is rushing to drift around and burn up the $1300 set of tires it comes with. I understand it's a softer compound but for the price and the level of tread wear I don't think it's really worth it at all. I plan to track the car on occasion and mostly do suspension mods off before anything else, I run through the canyons here and there but I wouldn't be pushing the car the way it's "meant to be driven" stock anyway let alone with a Frankenstein tire set up

That's why I got the Hankooks I figure the less the tire lasts the softer the compound and that was my best option at 280 as opposed to the stock 140... The other options were way cheaper and I was in a jam but I love my car so I compromised a little

I here you man you have to do what you have to do! Just be careful if your pushing the limits of the car in the twisties with that tire setup. That is a bummer about the screw, did you need new rear tires anyways?

Nah man they're good I haven't been grinding these tires out much like I said it's stock so I don't go crazy in the canyons... Tires didn't even have 7k yet I'm pretty sure they should last up to like 20k or so. You have a bad *** Z by the way, I've only barely seen maybe a handful of z's out in my area and only one was modded up nice with an amuse kit other than that everyone is stock. Some clean z33's here and there though.
