Tires slip
 

Hi guys, need some advise here.
Wanted to post the question for month, and finally remembered. I still have the stock tires on my Z, with only 10k miles on it, but I am frustrated by the way they handle. Thus far, I don't think I was ever able to give full throttle, or even close to it. Obviously in first gear it's a given than they will spin, but even in second and sometimes in third gear I get the silly light in my dash telling me to take it easy. What do I have 330 horses trembling under the hood, if only 200 are usable. I am assuming it's the tires, but I did not have the issue in NY, before moving to Texas. I guess the grip on asphalt (NY) was better than concrete (TX), but you would think the with or more wear would help with the traction.

Soooooo, since I doubt I would get much snow down here, summer tires instead of M+S would be better. Any advise in the southern climate on tire choice, for the hot south summer month?

Take your pick based on what your price range is...

Depends on your budget. If you have the cash to spend, I suggest Bridgestone RE-11. If a bit tight, Hankook Ventus V12. I've had both, and they're excellent, though on the opposite side of the price spectrum.

Are you sure the tires are slipping? Your brake fluid may be a little bit low which can cause the light to come on under "high" Gs.

What size RE-11 would you get for stock sports package rims? Tirerack doesn't list them when specifying rubber for OEM wheels, but does carry them in a variety of sizes.

Absolutely, my rear keeps going sideways, very annoying.

Maybe air pressure too high.?=less grip.?

Good question OP!! I just bought a 2010 Roadster this past weekend and it has relatively new Yokahama YK580's on it, and have the same issue you are having. I just bought some new wheels on the forum and am in the market for a good get of tires that grip...

What tires are you running right now? Also, what size and pressure?

To be honest, the stock Yokahamas are pretty decent tires. It has better traction/grip than Hankook V12 IMO. However, key point for a grippy tire is warming them up. You can't just expect any cold tire, track or not, to catch grip if they're not properly warmed up.

OP if the stock OEM tires have 10k miles on them then they are just worn out. OEM tires are only like a 140 treadwear rating. at 10k miles my rears looked like slicks. i wore out a set of Michelin PSS's in about 15k miles.

I have the same issues with my A7. Tires spin rather easily. Softer compound tires will help the grip but wear faster so you need to determine the cost involved for stickier tires.

Are you going to Nismo Fiesta in April? I got tickets and going.

I wish, I'm never much around and travel most of the Year......and don't have a Nismo ;-)

And yes, even when they are warmed up they rather spin easily, have about 10k on them but they still have a decent amount of tread left.

It was much more difficult to spin them on my BWM with a bit less power, but I am certain it's the tires, and again back in NY on asphalt, the first 5k miles I never had that problem. I will switch to a softer tire soon and see how it goes.

Don't need a Nismo for Nismo Fiesta.

Part of it is tires, but part is power too.
Put a 4 banger in it, problem should go away.



Seriously though I changed to continental dws and it made a small diff.
