Rec's for DD, higher tread life, FL tires

Hey

been a while since I've posted.. had my 2012 Touring / Sport 370 Z for just about 2 years now, 17k miles, so far. Love the car more than ever. really Love my Fast Intentions system!

Its my DD, occasional minor aggressive driving, ( stop light granprix style ) but no tracking etc. Plowed through so many posts in this area about tires, but atm, more than confused.

Occasional wet traction required, its Tampa after all, but the focus is more on tread wear than anything...

I saw someone mention a Michelin that has a 300 Tread wear? that would rock.

or a Bridgestone that has good tread life and decent wet traction?

Michelin pilot super sports 300 treadwear or Michelin AS/3 have a 500 treadwear rating. The A/S 3 is the newest performance tire from Michelin, but is an all season tire with a serious performance edge. I am considering it for my other car as myZ has pilot super sports already. A worthy tire to consider for Tampa and ur Z is the AS3. Hit tire rack.

IMO, continental extremecontact DW. you can get a set of 4 for ~800 and the treadwear rating is 340. honestly, the ratings dont mean much, especially comparing brands, but i got 20k out of mine with one 90-100 degree track day. burnt so much rubber that day....if i didnt go id probably finished them off with 25-30k miles. the fronts at 20k are still good for another 20k IMO, but the rears were toast after the track day

Bridgestone RE 760. tire amazes me. I think it's a 50K tire, cheaper than re 050, and could not believe how well it did on track. Granted, you don't want to do heavy tracking on it, but there is nothing else you could ask of a HP street tire.

Looks pretty darn cool too.
Edit: you probably need to go to Bridgestone dealer to find it.

ive run RE760's on a different car. great tire as well, similar in price to the continental DW, but IMO for a DD, the DW is slightly better.

the DW weighs in at 24lbs front/27lbs rear versus the RE760 at 29lbs front/30lbs rear. savings of a measly 16lb . the sidewall on the DW is pretty soft, probably softer than the RE760, so it'd be a more comfortable tire, if thats what you're after at least. i cant comment on quietness as ive run the RE760 on a lexus (damn cars are so soundproof already!!!)

also, you cant beat continentals warranty. you get a standard 1 year road hazard warranty for FREE on all of their tires. never claimed it myself, but ive heard authorized resellers have no problems getting you a replacement tire for free, as long as its within the first year, and tread is at a certain level still

Tread wear numbers cannot be used to compare tires outside a SINGLE manufacture.

A/S 3 ftw. Have the A/S+ on my ISF and they are great. The 3 ' should be better all around.

U guys didn't mention if they look cool or not.

Nah, good to know what some of the alternatives are. . I would say the re 760 is listed as a sport tire and for daily use alone is probably too much. But man they are not far off from being a track tire. I don't know anything about the AS-3's. But my rears are currently goodyear f1's(can't remember which ones) but they are 97% just fine. They always hook up-eventually, so maybe that makes them cool too hehe.

so, after I posted this thread, I read the RE11 stickied thread ( ya.. should have read it before posting.. lol )

so that's a consideration as well.. but the census from your posts here..

Michelin A /S 3, Bridgestone RE 760, or Continental Extreme Contact DW

something else that crossed my mind re tread life etc: paying 30% more say for a longer wearing tire that may not even get 30% more tread life out of it.. isn't good ROI.

other question.. 245/40/19 F, 275/35/19 R ( Sport rays wheels ) all else remais stock... except my sweet F.I. CBE..

if needed, could I bump to 255/40 - /285/35? or really depends on brand / tire re tread width?

I have the A/S 3 and highly recommend them. I've yet to try them in temps over 60 degrees, but they have been great all the way down to 31 degrees. They handle rain really well. We haven't had ice or snow, but I wouldn't drive it in those conditions anyways and you won't see those conditions in Florida. Many reviews say that they are as good or better than many summer tires in warm weather.

If RE-11s lasted as long as that thread says I'd put them on in a heartbeat.

And yes you could go 285 in the rear.

I just finished going through my first set of rear RE-11's. Put em on last spring, probably April or May. Did canyon runs, plenty of spirited sdriving and no track days. Had to replace one of em, but had the road hazard and was stoked I had it because it saved me from buying another $280+ tire.

So I was down to 1/32 and just got em replaced this past Wednesday. I was able to get about 13,000 miles out of em, which is more than I got out of my RE-050's.

I barely squeezed 30k out of my Hankook's, and I drive quite frequently, with the occasional spirited driving. I thought they were good for the money and life I got out of them.

That's more realistic I got 23k out of some Youkohama S.Drives (I did a flip flop on the rear tires to balance out the camber wear.) And I had probably 2/32nds to go. I did a few canyon runs (less than Eagle) but I did do a lot of burn outs.
