Plasti-Dip Matte Wheels Into Gloss For $12.99
Black Gloss dip wheels (Not Glossifier)
I found this very interesting.. Basically you just spray onto the wheel and the chemicals from the tire shine bond with the plastidip to give you a gloss/powder coated finished. HERE IS THE BEFORE - STANDARD BLACK PLASTI-DIP HERE IS THE AFTER- TIRE SHINE More Shots Of Matte Black w/Tire shine Good for anyone thats over the look of the matte and want that gloss finish but still want to be able to remove the Plasti-dip whenever you want. Saves a lot of money compared to powdercoating the rim. $6 (x2) + $12.99 vs $100 per rim.

I suppose using the glossifier would be much easier and more cost effective.
But its still interesting how the product makes it shiney. Even if its only for 3-4 months.. I am going to buy some and try it out - I ordered a can of glossifier too. Going to do a side by side comparison.

When you say the tire shine bonds to the plastidip.....does the plastidip hold it better than when applied to tires. Ideally what I want is a black chrome or hyper black effect using plastidip but I haven't found the right mix and methods to use, I.e. Black with metalizer or pearlizer, or anthracite grey. I also researched using black plastidip as base coats then using permanent paint and clear coat paint on top, but it cancels the plastidip removable properties...

I would look into just using glossifier over the black. It really doesn't shine like you'd think. It almost looks chrome/gloss. If not the glossifier, create your own dip color by emptying black into a mixer, and emptying some clear or gloss/pearl, with 10g of black pearl candy pigment. That will shine it up a bit.
Here is a photo that I took to show you the difference of black vs glossfier w/black...

Powdercoating is only $100/rim? Does that typically include taking off the tires, etc? I'm guessing not..

But yes, you always remove the tires to do powdercoating. And some places don't remove them for you This is plasti-dip though, no tire removal necessary. & Costs roughly $10 for 4 wheels. Not $100

Did you purchase gallons of plastidip, mix them, and then spray it using the plastidip spray gun sold on dipyourcar.com?

Yeah, I have a small dipping business as a side job. I have 4 guns, over 50 gallons of inventory on hand and always ready to dip someones ride and get it to their "dream" color!

Really depends on who you have removing your wheels. If you are doing it yourself, you can easily manage to remove the tire without removing a ton of dip. Also, if the tech is really good, he will avoid ruining the dip. However, at the end of the day, its $5.68 to redo the wheels and touch them up.. So really, you just have to understand that every two years or year, you're gunna have to touch up the wheels when you get new tires. It takes $20 and 30 minutes of you're time.
Here are my wheels about a month ago when I got new tires. Notice, theres not really any loss of dip.. its mostly sealant grease or whatever that stuff is they use. Here is the first time I got new tires, I went to a cheaper tire place. There weren't any high quality technicians working on my car there..

I'm trying to achieve like a hyper black/ gunmetal look ... Kind of a metal look to it. I plan on buying one of the spray guns from dipyourcar.com. They have 2 options for spray guns, which do you recommend? And which colors of plastidip do you suggest to achieve that metal look? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
