yah, i was just noting wat i might be concerned about if i did the collar + aftermarket lugs.

it's completely up to you wat you want to do with your car.

boosted180 06-23-2014 09:52 PM

Looks like a lot of people on this thread are using aftermarket lug nuts. Anyone want to sell me their stock oem ones? I need 10 of them (for two wheels). PM me. Thanks.

If I like it as time goes by, maybe I'll get my lug nuts powder coated in red or black. Or just pull the caps off and leave them silver. I'm not sure yet, but I don't have much invested in the process at this point.

Where did you get these? 21mm?

Good write up Sean, I assume that all these better brands use forged aluminum, idpl they are aluminum. As opposed to cast or billet, the later of which is the weakest form. Currently I'm running on VMS Billet aluminum lugs, which have been fine. My car is only driven in fair weather though, no telling what a few winters would do to them. Mostly purchased them for the color (Orange). Thinking about a new set of lugs and though I'd still like orange, they don't seem to be readily available. Maybe I'll go gunmetal. Thoughts?

Waiz 04-26-2015 06:52 PM

Never heard of VMS, how is the color holding up?

Aftermarket chrome lugs for 370Z Nismo wheels

Okay I've read everyone's post but I cannot find a chrome aftermarket Mag-seat lug for my Nismo wheels. McGard say they don't make them which is weird because it came with a McGard wheel lock from the dealer. Can't find a Gorilla lug either. Everyone I find is a cone seat. Does anyone know a brand for us simple folk that just wants a better looking lug on his stock Nismo???

Thanks!!!

No such animal. Nissan used mutant lug nuts on the OEM wheels.

Want different lugs, get different wheels.

Not sure how you can have such an informative thread then not mention why you wouldn't run Muteki's? Their steel line is more than capable and I have been running them for 2 years without issue as have several others

You should also add McGard and Gorilla lug nuts to your thread, plenty of people run either and are a good option instead of paying $200 on a set of JDM lugs that don't offer you anyting else more than a fashion statement

You should also mention that the maxium torque spec for our lugs is 80 ft/lb and a torque wrench should always be used

Great Info - I Also Use GORILLA Lugs & Locks - OEM Rims Torqued To 85#...

Those are not the correct locks for stock wheels (Nismo, Sport, or Base). The only locks that work PROPERLY are the Nissan ones :twocents:

I can assure you those are not seated properly and could possibly damage your wheels or fail :ugh:

If you don't believe me, try torquing them down more. And then some more. The washer will bend because they don't seat correctly. Ask DEpointfive0.

How about these "Lock Nuts" on a 2010 Touring Roadster - Gorilla site says they will work...:confused:

kenchan 10-05-2015 03:22 PM

Why not just get the factory ones?

Please Explain (Nope!) - Is It The Washers?? The Tapered Base??

JARblue 10-05-2015 03:43 PM

The Nissan wheel locks for the Z have a slightly longer shaft is my understanding. The distance from the washer to the start of the taper is longer on the Nissan locks than the normal aftermarket locks available in the standard acorn style. Because of this the standard acorn style locks did not seat properly on the Z wheels when they first came out, so McGard provided special locks directly to Nissan dealers for our cars.

Read Post #25-35 in this thread: http://www.the370z.com/wheels-tires/...ng-stolen.html. There is another thread linked in there that has info as well. PM DEpointfive0 with additional questions as he has probably test fit more locks than anyone here :twocents:

I have a set of Project Kics R40s (black) with the Project Kics R40's Blue caps on XXR Racing Rims (not sure of the offsets and numbers anymore lol)

I'll get some pics up soon here!

 Get whatever you want man.

I'm just trying to tell you that the ONLY locks that work PROPERLY on the Z stock wheels are the Nissan ones. The thread I linked has part numbers for US and CA versions (the CA packaging is also in French - that's the only difference).

I APPRECIATE YOUR HELP - I DO - I'M JUST TRYING TO SORT THINGS OUT
The DORMAN 611-294 - Directly Cross Reference Nissan #40224-JKOOA
So Your Saying They Are NOT The Same????
NISSAN Parts Are Expensive!!!!
Somebody Makes These NUTS For NISSAN...
For $8 Each I'll Keep Mine (Sorry Nissan)...:eek:
Why Are My Wheel Nuts "Powder Coated"? BUT I Cant Find Any Reference To Them Here (Or Anywhere Else)

JARblue 10-06-2015 10:33 AM

Honestly man, I do not know anything about those lugs. You know you don't have to pay overpriced dealer prices :ugh:

Have you looked on eBay? Or keep an eye out on the forum. I got a full set of 20 lugs on this forum for $25. ZSpeed sells a set of black lugs for $80, which is only $4 per lug (as opposed to the $8 you quoted ). If you bought your car used, who knows what the previous owner did to it.

THANKS MAN!!!:tiphat:
I Did Buy My Z Used...
So There Is No Such Thing As Optional Nissan Powder Coated Lugs???
The Car Is Perfect / The Rims Are Perfect (Very Low Milage)
The Nuts MATCH The Rims EXACTLY - So That's Not OEM...:shakes head:

That Makes Me Want CHROME Nuts Even More!!!!!

JARblue 10-06-2015 05:25 PM

I've never seen the black lugs as an option from a Nissan dealer. I just know that Joe at ZSpeed started offering some in the last year or so. I trust him. I do not know how they are finished (anodized or powdercoated or what).

I would post a WTB thread here for a set or just get some from eBay :twocents:

It does provide some lubrication for the threads, so, if you're real picky, you may want to adjust tightening torque. It works great at preventing rust/corrosion/galling (if you are using stainless-on-stainless fasteners, some form of anti-seize is a must to minimize galling) and makes removal much easier.

I know this is an old thread; but i've been using antiseize for over 25 years,,,originally started on heavy trucks (with Budd wheels) and carried on from there.
never had an issue with stripped or broken studs-i even use on my ~Z~
I was looking up to see what people were torquing their wheels too & 80ft.lbs. seems a bit weak.....i've been evenly torquing mine to 100ft.lbs. without any issues.

Not BLACK - They Are SILVER P.C. To Match The Wheels
(Not The Usual Stainless Or Bare Metal Silver Finish)

I had muteki's but two broke and I never second guessed it. I might have bought some bootleg ones, I forgot where I got them from. Now Im running the Project kics r40's open ended and havent had problems since.

osbornsm 10-29-2015 09:43 AM

I have Rays lug nuts and have had no issue with them.

Swap tires 6+ times a year.

Gavin, Do you have the pics yet?? I'd like to see those.

Shaggy370Z 03-20-2017 06:41 PM

I decided to give Muteki lug nuts a try. I ordered a set of the SR35 Closed End Neo Chrome lug nuts from Import Parts Pro. Interested to see how they look on my black wheels, I've been running black lug nuts on them as I have never been sure how they would look with colored or Neo Chrome lugs. I was looking at Password JDM lug nuts from Concept Z Performance but couldn't find anyone running them on a Z so I went with the more popular Muteki's.

Read through this whole thread and did a search via google for the site. Asking as it has been a few years for this thread and things might have changed.

I have a 2013 NISMO with stock Rays rims. I am looking for a gloss black lug. Only time the rims come off is for tire/rubber change.

After reading all this I am thinking of getting a second set of OEM lugs and PC them black.

Do I have any other options for stock 2013 rays rims?

barncobob 05-03-2017 07:50 AM

I had an older porsche, wanted gloss black lugs, couldnt find them...finally found a gloss black vinyl overlay(cover) that worked quite well...found them on ebay somewhere.
