anyone using these? Muteki Lugs. How reliable are they besides the chipping issue? (more worry about durability and reliability than the colors chipping since i wont be able to get another set until i come back from my trip)

these are the ones i got

I own the Muteki SR35 close ended ones. No chipping since day one cause i'm very careful when it comes to the wheels and lug. Durability wise, i've been using it for about 10k miles without any issues nor even the treads are damaged. They're very good for the amount offered for

axmea? 12-16-2013 01:58 AM

I've had my Muteki's since March - about 10k miles. No issues. Looks as good as the day I bought it. I do need an extra key just in case though.

wstar 12-16-2013 07:31 AM

^ That reminds me, if you pull your wheels off and/or re-torque regularly, you should stock up on those keyed sockets. At least with Muteki, that's the one problem I have had, is that the socket's wall will sometimes eventually tear/fail before you're done with the lugs it came with (from removals w/ impact wrench).

kenchan 12-16-2013 09:45 AM

you shouldn't use impact wrenches with those adapters... hell, i dont use impact wrenches on any of my nice wheels.

kenchan 12-16-2013 10:05 AM

with all this talk, now i want red lugs. :shakes head:

When I decide to pull the trigger on aftermarket wheels, I think I'll get some nice lugs to go with them as well.

kenchan 12-16-2013 11:35 AM

muteki sr48 in neon chrome:
Muteki SR48 Lug Nuts UNIVERSAL 0 - 0 32905N

locks are available:
Muteki SR48 Lug Nuts UNIVERSAL 0 - 0 32901N

32905N for 20 lugs, 32901N for the 4 locks (dont mind the pic in the locks, its obviously wrong)

kenchan 12-16-2013 09:02 PM

should have my neo's by end of the week. :p

kenchan 12-16-2013 09:03 PM

I had no intention of replacing my lug nuts...but since I just lost the key to the mcgard locks I might as well spend the money on the muteki!

The SR48 won't stick out too funky on the stock rays would they?

do not use tuner lugs on stock wheels!!! you will break the studs

Eh they're track wheels, I don't care about scratches, they come off a lot, and there's no real harm using an impact to remove (just not to install!). Except for the part about the weak thin-walled adapters. They don't always break, so I've learned to just stock up on them (don't throw away old ones when I get new ones) since they're all the same pattern anyways.

equalme 12-17-2013 09:13 AM

So looks like I will need washer type lugs which the muteki are not?

wstar 12-17-2013 09:25 AM

Yes, the stock wheels need the washer-style, the Muteki's are cones.

the adapters are not meant to be used with an impact, that's wat i meant.

scratches on lug bores is more of a personal issue i have with wheels. i hate scuffed up wheels. thus i never take my wheels to the tire shop while still on the car (unless it's at tirerack... they use hand jacks and hand tools and low power drivers). :D

So where are we at in regards to Aluminium nuts? These are 7075 T6 aluminum, which is very strong from what I understand (I'm not a metallurgist though). If torqued properly = ok? Add anti-seize to be safe = good to go?

ding ding ding, we have a winner!

kenchan 12-18-2013 01:10 PM

mr.gale- im sure they do fine as long as you use the entire thread allowed and 80lbs/ft.

minimum thread needed is 10mm for steel lugs, so perhaps you might need 13-14mm just to be on the safe side. i too have no scientific data on the strengths.

however i do know they strip a lot easier than steel lugs. :ugh:

If you plan on removing your wheels alot I would pass, otherwise they are fine to use

Under no circumstance should you use anti-seeze on your lugs or studs though

So Kics R40 is made of aluminum? Is it easy to get scratched off or broken after few uses? This is a great thread. But could we add what material is used for each lug nut?

I guess, they aren't that light, but they aren't steel for sure. When I got Mutekis in I lifted the box, then put RTS on it and sent it back, THOSE were heavy.

No scratches you can see easily to be honest with multiple on/offs, and never heard of one breaking, but most track guys ain't going to track on $300 lugs

Wonka2581 05-23-2014 02:04 AM

Just get some BOLX Titanium lugs.... I love mine..;)

equalme 05-23-2014 04:26 AM

I was too overwhelmed by lug choice so I just went with the tried and true Mcgards spline drives. They are a two piece design to prevent gouging when tightening the lugs down like Kics, and they also warranty coating chips.
