:icon18: $4000 theft doesn't really warrant a fingerprint expert to come in. My house was burglarized and they took $100k worth of stuff, INCLUDING guns, (one being a Desert Eagle) and there were GORGEOUS prints on the buttstock of a shotgun... They wouldn't take prints off the wood because the burglary wasn't big enough.

they certainly will fingerprint. My brother had one firearm and his wallet stolen out of his vehicle and they fingerprinted the whole thing so Idk what kind of lazy *** police force you were dealing with...

mytoyo2k1 12-05-2013 02:56 PM

Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions, really do appreciate it.

Quick update...i still haven't received my car back.
The wheels came in but in the process of reinstalling the brake lines, they broke something and the guy had to reorder that part.

Should be coming in tomorrow, btw total damages were 7,100

RumbleFish 12-05-2013 04:34 PM

May the thieves slide under a gas truck and taste their own blood.

FairladyZ10PG 12-05-2013 05:52 PM

It was about 2 weeks ago, I witnessed a wheel theft in person.
I was at a mall around 2:30pm on a Sunday afternoon and there was a guy standing next to a brand new escalade sitting on a hydraulic jack. I just thought he had a flat so I just parked my car in front of him and walked into the mall (Brea Mall in Socal).
When I came out 2 hours later the escalade was sitting on bricks with all 4 wheels gone. I couldn't believe it. The thieves stole the wheels during broad day light on a Sunday at a busy mall parking lot. :shakes head:
I was just glad that they didn't decide to take my wheels too. If any local member decides to go to this mall, should be really careful as the mall security guard said this happens quite often at this mall.

One word - Garage. Your car is more important than your professional Beer Pong table. When i lived in an apartment in my 350Z days i required them to have garage units before i would move in. If you must park outside tilt sensor is a good idea or park on an incline of more than 20%

/Angelo350Z/ 12-05-2013 06:12 PM

Hope you get your wheels soon and your Z back to 100% OP. I can imagine how upsetting this whole thing is.

Boomer370 12-06-2013 08:12 AM

That is SHITTY man!

I hope the guy that took them get run over by a truck!

One question, how did you get the car home?

Did you just get another set of wheels to put on?

The tow truck guy had to get approval from the dealership manager to unmount the wheels and tires from a floor model nismo and that was after he came to the scene with 4 regular donut replacements that did not fit because of the brake caliper.

So I decided to get the '13 gunmetal version...same price and they weight the same.

vividracing 12-06-2013 11:41 AM

Sucks to see this happen so often on the forum, insurance should pay out well enough to absorb a set of aftermarket wheels but I know you Nismo guys love your OEMs. Let me know if we can be of any help with this mess.

zeeder 12-06-2013 11:54 AM

Those gunmetal Nismo's are the business!

CrownR426 12-07-2013 07:53 PM

Happened to me when I just got Hankook Ventus V12's.
Didn't even drive on them for a week.
Right infront of my house!
3-4 Weeks later it was posted on G35nyc.com
I recommend you to report to the local P.D.
And keep a eye out on forums and craigslist.
The people who did it probably followed you from somewhere and watched for many hours.
I feel your pain brother, I seriously advise current and new z owners to get Viper Alarm System.
Wheel Locks won't really do justice...

Aaaaand that's why, a little different than a set of wheels.

True, but theft is mostly based off off value. I have lots of guns but none that retail for $3000-4000. I'd want more police work for 4k wheels vs a $500 glock.

But a stolen gun may be used to commit murder. I doubt someone's gonna strap a set of Nissan sport package rims onto their car just to run someone over.

mytoyo2k1 12-09-2013 02:00 PM

I finally got my car back!

However I'm not happy, the Yokohama Advan Sport feel so weird, so much understeer...could it be I got a set of lemons?

The bf goodrich kdw's and kumho spts were alot less in price and I never felt any form of understeer...

I have to park outside but I have a window view of my car. Can't watch while I sleep obviously but I check on it sometimes and if I catch a fool messing with my car in any way I have a baseball bat ready for them lol

well the guy that said they didn't fingerprint his house said guns were stolen. ive also had local pd fingerprint for nothing but radio theft and wallets from inside a car.

Doesn't matter. Value is value. You go to jail based off of price. Guns are stolen for profit and selling. Murders don't go around breaking into cars in hopes of finding a gun to go kill someone. Premeditated murder isn't as popular as you think haha.

I dont think you got lemons, I am in the process of switching these stock tires out myself because i have never had such a horrible experience with a set of tires as these. I find that when the weather is even moderately cool outside they have absolutely no traction whatsoever and in the wet they are even worse. I am contemplating getting michelin pilot sport as3's.

Is it usual protocol for an insurance company to just replace with stock tires? I thought they have to replace what you have on at the time of loss.

They have to pay OEM value, you can decide to do whatever you want with it.
How the OP ended up with a set of stock everything without making a few grand on the side, I will never know. I'm sure the dealer's owner was laughing his áss off

Tribalpinoy91 12-10-2013 10:35 AM

This happened to me back in september, it was a bitch to tow had to source another spare to even attempt to tow it. But glad your dealership helped you out.

I know that's what I thought :shakes head: I tracked down 2 stores that had the tires in-stock I sent the guy handling my car the estimates and he gave me a lame reason why they can't purchase from them.

its very simple....what you just described that's called defrauding.

Dealer might be laughing his *** off, but i'm sleeping at night without a guilty conscience.

XxACExX 12-10-2013 11:39 AM

I was very curious so i just looked through my insurance policy and maybe things are different in canada but my policy states they must replace the equipment that was on the vehicle at the time of loss. Now this is where things can get a little crazy because whats to stop somebody from creating a huge list of high end items and declaring the loss-lol

Um... No it's not...
Insurance paid $7000 to the dealer. Meaning they were willing to cut you a check for $7000 and you could get it fixed however way you see fit. Because it is your car, you own it, you do what you want. Like them not getting the tires you want, LOL, as long as the tires you want are cheaper than OEM, I don't know why you'd stand for that.
And here's my price replacement breakdown if you took a check for $7000

Price you can get everything, shipped: Nismo wheels $1989, plus center caps, $240, plus TPMS, (let's say) $400, (let's say) Michelin PSS installed WITH a Costco Business membership $1500

Add that up $4129, I REALLY doubt the damage done to the car was $2871, and you'd lawfully get to keep the remainder.

What the dealer did is charge $1000/wheel, FULL retail or more, accuse him of defrauding the insurance company

I have no problem posting the estimate, however your numbers are a bit off.
Also Statefarm wrote the check to the dealership and myself in the "Pay to the Order" section so am I in a bind with them?

should have had them cut you a check and shopped around for what you wanted. you're getting ripped off.

it's not fraud. it's called being smart. lol @ $410 a piece for advan sport tires

Please read my previous post, i shopped around.
My hands were tied, State Farm did not give me a choice they made the check out to my name and the dealerships.

I'm still financing the car, the bank currently owns the car so I'm guessing that's why they couldn't cut the check solely in my name.

XxACExX 12-10-2013 10:02 PM

Op never got ripped off at all. As far as I see it he got his car back to the way it was which is what insurance is for. I find it hilarious that people think that not gaining more in the end is getting ripped off lol!

Not exactly, you are right, but why let the dealer make a profit?
Either I make the profit because I'm the one paying for the damn insurance every month and not using it, or I guess you have insurance keep it... If you believe a bit too much in Karma. (But you just got your wheels jacked, so... Let's assume not)
Oh yeah, ESPECIALLY when I have to pay the deductible, you can bet your ASSSS I'm going to make sure MY loss is covered

XxACExX 12-10-2013 10:21 PM

This mentality is why are rates are so high.

Thing is, if the world becomes Buddha tomorrow, your rates won't go down either, because they know you're used to paying a certain amount.

And insurance was willing to pay $6600 after the deductible.
Since you want to take the morally correct way, tell insurance to get the same parts for cheaper, like I stated in a previous post. Tell them to keep the change.

It may not sound like it, but at the end of the day, I'm being the asshňle so that OP or others can learn there is another way, and you are here. Ask us for our opinions, don't let people (Insurance company and the dealer) use you, they're YOUR employee.

If OP can return his set of lugs nuts for $160, I will GLADLY send him a set of 20 on MY dime for free.
Just saying we're all here to help, even though it may not seem like it at first

XxACExX 12-10-2013 10:38 PM

I do agree that alot of dealers do try and screw the insurance companies out of money by charging inflated prices but I do not agree with this practice and will not contribute to it at all. The dealer should charge reasonable prices regardless if going through insurance or not.
