Spacer size for 285 square on stock rays?
I've searched several times and I can't seem to find the answer to this so I finally decided to ask it. I'm wanting to go to a square setup when I need new tires but I'd also like to get some spacers. My suspension is completely stock with no plans to change anytime soon and I don't want any rubbing. I daily drive my car so I only need to worry about spirited driving and the occasional auto-x event. Ideally, I would like to do 20mm all around so I could use the bolt-on type but will go with stud replacement if I have to.
So, will 275/19 or 285/19 work without rubbing problems? Since I'm wanting to increase the width in the front should I put a larger spacer in the back? What do you think the best spacer combination would be for the best look without the possibility of rubbing? Lastly, if I have to go stud replacement will this mean that my wheel locks will no longer fit? Thank you in advance for any information you can provide!

I'm not sure what you are inquiring about... When people talk about a "square" setup they traditionally mean wheels of the same width, not tires. I personally think that a 275 or 285 would look ridiculous with the stock 9" wheels in the front. A lot of guys will go with a 255 or 265 up front and a 295 or 305 in the rear to get a more aggressive look. As for spacers two popular combos are 15mm(F)-20mm(R) and 20mm(F)-25mm(R). I would never recommend using spacers while at an auto-x event. Obviously the stud replacement spacers require a more intense installation, but give greater peace of mind. If you do stud replacement spacers, your stock lug nuts/wheel locks will still work just fine. When you replace the studs the only thing you change is the length of the stud to accommodate the spacers. Any other questions just reply or PM me.

Yeah, I suppose I should have said quasi-square since the wheels aren't the same. I realize the front wheel will be slightly taller and more narrow but it still gets you 90+% of the way to the same balance as a true square setup. Thanks for your advice on spacers. I haven't auto-x'd with a Z yet but it's something I'd like to try. The only issue is can I fit in the car with a helmet on...lol. If I do decide to get spacers and go with the larger front wheel, I'll probably go ahead and do the 15mm stud replacement up front.

Thanks for the pics Martin! I think the 275 looks great up front and I'll definitely be going that direction when the OEM tires wear down!
