Default Will 255/40s rub on a lowered 9.5 +12?

Edit: The answer to this is YES.

I went with 245/40s up front and it rubs the tabs a tiny bit over big dips. 255/40s are taller and wider... they would rub with this wheel setup.

-----
Car is lowered on H&R springs with Volk 9.5 +22s up front and 10.5 +12s in the rear. I currently have 245/35 up front and 275/30s on the rear based on wheel dealer recommendation. The stretch is way more than I need and since the rears finally wore down I want to replace them all with more meat without rubbing.

I was thinking of running 255/40 up front and 285/35 in the rear but am a bit worried it will rub. I have SPC rear camber/toe arms so currently sit within factory specs in back, but no adjustments in the front. Has anyone tried this set up or know if it will rub?

I did quite a bit of searching but seems like most lowered Zs on wheels with my specs are either running a 265/35 & 305/30 combo (with coil-overs) or stock 245/40 & 275/35 (with springs). I'm not sure if this is for clearance/appearance/speedo/gearing/financial/availability reasons.

Any insight on the intial fitment question would be appreciated.

Or if anyone is sure a 265/35 will fit up front with H&R springs let me know since that should poke .2" more than the 255/40 I want.

I Cant answer your question, but if me I would do 255/35 with the 285/35 combination.

255/40 may give you problems since the side wall will be higher up front than rear.

Minato is an unknown quantity at this point

255/40 will only be 2 mm bigger in diameter than 285/35

I'm running 19x9.5 +22 275/35 front, 19x10.5 +22 305/30 rear. Hankook RS3 tires. Lowered on KW Variant 3. Stock alignment setting.

Fenders slightly rolled/pulled. It only rubs when I hit a really hard pothole/dip.

I ran 18x10 +15 255/40 front before and it rubbed while turning until I ran -2 camber up front so go figure.

Not sure if this information will help or just confuse you even more LOL.

Minato is right, the difference is minimal. I tried to find set ups that were closest to the factory sport wheel diameter - i think the stock sports were 245/40 & 275/35. The 255/40 and 385/35 are both about 27" diameter (26.9 for fronts and 27 for rears) according to the tire calculators I used. So both fronts and backs went up as close to the same amount as possible.

I'm pretty sure I could run the 265/35 up front, certainly a 255/35 and a 30 series on the back. But I'm hoping to stick to a 40 profile up front and 35 profile in the rear to further reduce tire noise (will also be switching from Michelin Pilot Super Sports to Continental Extreme Contact DW or DWS).

OMG - I'm assuming fronts were rolled and rears pulled? And the rubbing is front fender? That does help a little. The 275 I think is about .4" wider than the 255. Makes me think this just might clear except on really big bumps. I'm probably gonna need total clearance though cause I hope to have these tires last till I sell the car, hopefully next summer.

Anyone else?

i ran 19x9.5+12 te37s up front with both 255/35 & 245/40, and with my setup (hks coilovers / no camber kits) they rubbed...but not the fenders, they hit the front tabs to a point of disintegration and were eventually relocated. i rolled/pulled my front fenders just in case prior to all the nonsense

running 285/35 in the rears should clear. i ran 285/35s on a 19x10.5+7 (5mm spacer) and it would only rub when going over speed bumps and train tracks. so you should be fine without using a spacer

*just fyi* i think my camber settings were at -2.25° f & -3° r when i had my te's *

i hope some of my info helps, but if you have further fitment q's you can pm me any time

That's close enough. With about 2/3rds down the threads you had to have been at at least a 1" drop, probably closer to 1.5". That would put you lower than I am on my H&R Springs. Plus your +12 offset puts your wheels/tires another .4" closer to the fender than my +22.

So I should have about .25 inches more height clearance than you and almost .5 inches of fender clearance. I think I should be good to run these.

With my Volks and the 255/40 tire I'm getting less than an inch closer to the fender than a stock wheel setup - same as running a 20mm spacer. Only 5mm closer to both fender and suspension than my current set up (.2 inches on each side) and 4mm more fill in the wheel well.

I think i'm gonna chance it and order these. thanks for the input. I'll post back up after install and update the thread.

well ****. just realized the tires I want don't come in the 255/40 size anyways. Now I've got to decide if I want to drop down to stock size 245/40 & 275/35 or go with summer only tires. Was willing to give up some performance and switch to all seasons for the comfort and tread life. My Pilot Super Sports only lasted about 1.5 years, 12K miles.

Fronts rolled/pulled. Rears left alone.

Rubbing was only in the front.

The rears have a lot of room. I'm running 19x10.5 +22 305/30 rear right now and I'm about to throw on 10mm spacers back there.

Hope that helps.

I'm dropped with h&rs with 20x9.5+12 in the fronts with a 255/30 only rubs on the driver side. i pushed one of the tabs that was rubbing upwards which solved my rubbing issues. hope that helps.
btw i have 20's.
