Default Discounttires.com would sell me tire size I needed

3/4 tires were slashed few weeks ago. Decided I wanted to do 255/30/20 on front and 255/35/20 on rears. Already had 255/30 on front and decided to go for a better stretch on the rear, my 285/30 was to wide.

Discount Tires told me they could not sell me 255/30 for the front because the load amount did not me vehicle specs. I've never had a shop refuse to sell me a tire I wanted. They stated it was a safety concern. I explained it's worked fine for me before but they still refused. I ended up having to change tire sizes to 255/35 all around which required me to buy 4 tires when all I needed was 3.

I understand the need for safety but the liability should rest with the purchaser. Was somewhat disappointed since they have some of the best pricing for tires, don't know that Ill shop with them again if I cant buy tires that suit my needs.

Any suggestions for website or shops that have great tire pricing?

They refused to sell NT555's to one of my friends since it can't handle the load and weight of the car but it was ok with 453's.

My local discount tire will sell me any tire that fits.....but they wont install the wheel back once theyve mounted and balanced because i have spacers on. They stated safety reasons. So i had to install the wheels on my own. They should have a waiver or something. Im not paying to do the work myself.

Don't try Costco either then. We are very strict on Load rating....except when it comes to my car......hehe

I Cannot believe they are doing this(to a certain extent), I have bought many tires from them... they recently pulled this on a guy at work, and went above and beyond to lose his sale... He has an 07 civic si with 18" wheels for his auto x setup and he runs the bf KDWs in 215/40/18, and gave him the same garbage with load rating...well here is the kicker..he is a Honda tech and I am a service advisor for Honda, and Honda offers a set of factory performance wheels for the SI that are 18's that the FACTORY OE TIRE for those wheels is the BF KDW in 215/40-18, I checked, identical tire, same load rating as the tire they would not sell him. We even faxed it to them, still would not do it...really disappointing from DiscountTire, I understand liabilities and such but in our case it was just ridiculous.

I did not like the story of the refusal NOFATCHX but I did like your stance. That’s why I like it. Lol

Anyways you might want to do what 1325 stated and just order online.

Or call discount tire and tell them you just want to buy them out right. No install and mount/balanced elsewhere.

Discount tire wouldn't work on my buddy's car since he had spacers. We ended up parking around the corner and taking the spacers off and going back.

This story is just dumb. IF the member can provide proof or if their door sticker states that that was the OEM size and the load rating then we would do it. A lot of cars depending on the wheel size have different load rating requirements. Our MAST fitment guide shows all possible fitments but they do miss some. We had a guy come in with an Acura RDX with 19's and they were clearly factory 19's but his door sticker stated that it came with 18's. Our MAST fitment guide didn't even show that the 19's was an option for the RDX. He went to Acura, they provided a letter stating it was the correct size and load rating and ALSO changed his door sticker to the correct one. We installed his tires next day.

Trust me, I was in disbelief as well...we have several accounts with local tire vendors but they just do not carry the sizes or models us car guys needs, I bought my last set of POS pilot super sports from tire rack and just put them on myself(Im not just a paper pusher -we have a hunter auto34) but discount tire has always under cut tire rack in my experience. As much as I hate these tires I think I am going to run another set of rears until the fronts are wore out, that will be a happy day.

A bit out of the topic, @Joe - can you explain why you think the PSS are POS?

The steering response is garbage, and the sidewalls are soft and mushy. The corner stability is laughable, Michelin shelled out some serious money when they paid off all the reviewers and have many drinking their juice. If your Z sits in the garage and sees no twisties and you don't really "drive" it, it is most likely a "good" tire, IMO it performs on the level of tires I have driven on in the 7-800 dollar range. I had s-04s before the PSS and because of all the reviews I switched...MISTAKE...next time it will be re-11. It was a terrible waste of my money and I regret it every time I go on a curvy road.

Also I have bought tires from onlinetires.com before with success, they are hit and miss on price.
