plastidip or paint wheels?
So I am thinking of plastidipping or painting my wheels and possibly tinting my lights as well so I mocked them up in PS and would like everyone's opinions.
A = stock, no changes B = just blacking the wheels leaving a polished trim C = same wheels, with smoke tint covers (wraps) on top of all lights D = instead of a tinted wrap on headlights, have them painted inside with body matching accents ala forum sponsor paperboy E = tailights dark, headlights left alone http://www.the370z.com/members/bruce...ure70338-a.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/bruce...ure70342-b.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/bruce...ure70340-c.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/bruce...ure70341-d.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/bruce...ure70343-e.jpg |
D!!!!

yeah, I like D over C, but C is very easily reversible and inexpensive, am considering E too. Wondering if I'm looking a bit like a ricer kid if I go dark with everything which is why I am tempted to leave the headlights.

any thoughts on how to keep the polished trim on the wheels if I am plastidipping? I know I need to mask it off, any tips on how to do it nicely with a pro looking smooth curve?
|
None, all black.
But I'd plasti dip or powdercoat. |
Add a poll

not sure how to add a poll, but D seems to be a near consencus
|
None buy a real set and step away from the can.

no change "A" looks best out of those.
i just dont like dark spokes with bright rims especially on single piece wheels. who you trying to kid, kinda? :ugh: lol i would do KAV paint code wheels for your car and just paint it. no plastishit |
leaving that silver strip on the wheels in my opinion looks really cheap and UGLY. Please paint it all completely!
|
D, and use paint or powdercoat the wheels. Don't plastidip the wheels. Don't leave the silver rim on the wheels. Have the door handles painted the body color.

Yeah, I've realized leaving trim is bad, would paint the whole thing then pinstirpe on top. Reason I am considering plasti-dip is that it would be a good tester since I can undo it if I end up not liking it that much.

Testing out a look with plastidip is ok if you immediately peel it off and go get painted/powdercoated if you like it. Don't leave it on there. |
Is there a reason leaving it on there is a bad idea? I've never plasti-dipped anything so I don't know too much about it other than what I've seen online. Seems like a lot of poeple have used it on various parts.
|
Because plastidip looks like ***. You bought a $30k+ car, don't treat it like a Honda.
There's a lot of people who disagree with me, but I'm of the opinion that you should either do it right or not at all. Plastidip is the aesthetic equivalent of the washer mod. |
Hmm, having not seen any plasti-dip in person, I can't really say. I've heard there are some done well and some done poorly. just liked the idea that it could be easily changed back if it wasn't that i expected. Thanks for your input, this was just an idea I was kicking around yesterday. I will look into the various options more. I might just do the lights and leave the wheels.

What about plasti-dip on the handles? Does that end up looking cheap?
I should just do mine and take pics, since I have the Smoke and Gunmetal dips available. :P I don't like how our handles attract fingerprint smears and wouldn't mind seeing them color matched to my car (gunmetal). |

oh, and ask XiP wat he feels about removing plastishit. :icon17: |
This is photoshop, but it's not the same as seeing it in person in real life.
|
how about just buying Beema's 40th wheels?
|
|
not enough of a value shift so the contract isn't there as much

Are we voting? I vote for D!!!

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...psbab71c97.jpg For me its about what works for a good price. Paying some crazy prices out there for something just as functional for a cheaper price works for me, because i race car. Plus wheels will look like ****. Can't stop brake dust and who the hell wants to clean wheels daily. |

You and I'll never see eye to eye on plastidip. I think it's tacky and cheap. To each his own. |

Paint your rims KAV and your door handles Gun Metallic. The only thing I would use PlastiDip for is for blacking out the fangs. Since that area is a stone chip magnet, the elasticity of PlastiDip makes it the perfect coating. It can be easily touched-up - it is way more self-leveling than paint - and when it finally looks bad, peel it off and reapply. |

That comment may come as a surprise to not only R&S Wheels in Houston, but most if not all car manufacturers too. In spite of what was stated further up the thread, I painted mine. Two reasons: 1. I wanted an exact match to KAV; and 2. when they do get nicked/scratched, it's much easier to do a touch-up. Don't fool yourself, a powder coated wheel can get a stone chip; I've seen it numerous times. I don't deny that powder coating isn't a much more durable coating, but it does have some drawbacks too. I've got two nicks on my powder coated calipers, so it can happen. As with everything else, it's all a function of the environment you drive your car in. |
That's where I'm taking my wheels. And they're also painting them KAV.

Are there any pics of gunmetal Zs with 40th color wheels?
